Hi
Has anyone been to the beaches of Dubrovnik recently?  Any up to date information?  Is Cava beach still naturist?
Any help greatly appreciated

Last I read Cava is no longer naturist. Am not sure if it even exists as it was, apparently a huge remodelling job has been done on the beaches there but nothing for us.

Lokrum still exists if you want to pay about £20 each for a few rocks, thanks to Game of Thrones. Croatia Hotel in Cavtat still has a beach but it is bijou. I think there still the beach in Mlini, again, bijou by accounts.

Nearest good option would be Sunj beach on Lopud which is about forty mins on the ferry and then half an hour walk. Sorry, Dubrovnik is not one of the better Croatian locations for us. It has been over run with tourists seeking other things. You are better off out on the Dalmatian islands or Istria. Do your sightseeing in Dubrovnik for a couple of days and then tootle somewhere else.

I was in Dubrovnik just over a month ago and can confirm all that Brigitte has said. It's not a good area for naturism so you may have to travel a bit further afield to find something more suitable depending on how mobile you will be. One tip though is that the local bus services along the coast is very good and cheap and from the main bus station in Dubrovnik you can travel pretty well anywhere.

We loved Dubrovnik, the people and surrounding areas when we went, but the intervening 12 years has seen the tourism focus change dramatically. Dubrovnik is no longer just appreciated for being Dubrovnik but as the setting for TV shows which has escalated prices out of all proportion. Notwithstanding, I know the buses and ferries will still be reasonable. Plus the cruise ship influx which was bad enough then has only got worse. It is still a lovely town of course but not a good base for a two week holiday if naturism is a priority. Korcula is a laid back alternative and not far away by ferry, and coupled with Hvar is an excellent two island holiday for naturists. Or else Lopud would be nice if all you want to do is relax on a beach. You can also go to the other two islands Sipan and Kolocep in the chain there for a change of scene, both of which have any number of coves which can be used.

Thank you both very much for generously giving so much detail about what the situation is. It's clearly very disappointing, although the intention of the trip was not specifically naturist it would have been a very nice added bonus.

One quick question, I assume hotel saunas et cetera are going to be textile?

Ah there I am not sure. As Dubrovnik is heavily slanted to the British and US market in hotels rather than the Germanic I would assume textile but you could search around on Trip Advisor reviews using the words sauna and or spa of the hotels you are interested in to see what people say if anything. The Hotel Lone in Rovinj had a disapproving review noting nude sauna use, but of course the British don't dominate there. Otherwise, best to email specific hotels.

Thank you - planning on staying at Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel and Trip Advisor does mention nudity in the spa, Hurrah!
I'll report back in a few weeks...

Cava beach has been remodelled and has taken the naturist area and made it textile by the factor of the update. However the rocks between the beach and the President Hotel are still used by Gay men and it is not an area for your passive naturist. I soon moved after being hassled 3 times.

Shame. If a good naturist beach was near the town with facilities I would go back for a few days and combine it with an island. The cable car hadn't been rebuilt when we were there and I would like to do that.

I had no idea that Dubrovnik and Lokrum had been used for the shooting of "Game of Thrones". Sorry, I've been leaing a very sheltered life...  😉

I have no interest in seeing it but unfortunately it now seems to have a monopoly on the tourist industry there. We used to go on Lokrum for a fiver.....

And equally unfortunately Vis was used in Mamma Mia 2 this year which may mean in a few years that will have disappeared as one of the last peaceful Mediterranean havens of non commercialisation.

It seems to be a fact that film units find it most convenient to use unspoiled places for location work, probably because they have least problems with disrupting the regular local lifestyle.
The truly unfortunate thing about it is that any suitable location will the be re-used until it appears in a blockbuster at which point it will start to get swamped by fans and tourists, resulting in yet another unspoiled place being sought and used, with similar results.
I'm sure the movie companies would be as pleased as us if they could avoid this continually moving on.

Ye.

They didn't film in Greece this time because the original location Skopelos has been over run because of... Mamma Mia and seemingly there was not another suitable unspoiled location to be had. Also Croatia was cheaper.

I recently read an article on line, which said that Dubrovnik wanted to limit the number of tourists that they would allow in every day because it was becoming so overcrowded with tourists especially from cruise ships - the curse of holiday travel. See the following link:
