Thanks for that Christopher. I know that cutting wind on Sunday, we had it here, so I expected there would not be many there. As you say, this will be a long haul.

Thank you for telling us about it. I was sorry that I couldn't make the date, and still really sad that such a marvellous naturist beach is no longer free. We need more places for naturist relaxation, not less.

I've picked up on the BN site that naturism is now to be allowed below high water mark with immediate effect. This follows the threat of legal action by BN. More details will be available in due course.

This is a great result for BN and it shows what can be done and is a good reason why it needs more members. Other reasons may be found here

Well done BN  cp)

It's great news about Holkham beach, being open again for naturists below the high water line. Perhaps this thread should be re -titled!

Let's hope the Holkham Estate now take their silly signs down. Their position is untenable. Though they own the dunes the public have a right of way through them. Although I can understand people sheltering in the dunes if the wind's a little too strong my understanding has always been that nobody really should be there irrespective of their state of dress. Bona fide naturists use the beach  below the high water mark anyway so hopefully we shall return to the same situation we have had for the past 40 years at least.

Which high tide water mark? For that day or that year, or based on the highest tide ever? I don't know the beach, but how much beach is left at high tide? Does it mean there will be no beach naturism when the sea is in? Either way, naturist swimming must by allowed now.

It's the mean high tide i.e. the average of all high tides, as shown on OS maps

*Joke alert.* And only on alternate Tuesdays, when the moon is full and Neptune is aligned with Pluto.

Would this not be a problem then? If you don't like wet/damp sand, you may have to turn up on a day with less than average high tides, in order to have somewhere dry to lay. The best option maybe timing your visit around the low tides.

Good news that Holkham can be enjoyed by naturists once again. Pitty naturism was banned during the sunniest and warmest summer for seven years.
I really have no problem if the dunes remain out of bounds. I have not used them for years anyway.

I've not been there. I'm told that high tide to the high water mark is for about 10 minutes on some days. Those who are local will know better.

The point is that naturism is allowed, thanks to supreme efforts by BN and one individual in particular. One individual spent a fortnight non-stop before this came to a head and involved over 130 pages close legal argument. It cost money to do this so remember BN acted on all naturists behalf.

Remember this may be a battle won but the war is far from over. The Anti-Social Behaviour Bill threatens all naturists and the more I hear about it the more alarmed I am. It could make the Holkham battle seem like a picnic. All it will take is for a local authority to believe THEY believe an activity could have a detrimental effect on the quality of life for them to issue a OPublic Space Protection Order. This could apply to ANY place for section of any place to which the public have access. They only have to consult with the Police first.

If you don't belive these threats are real look at the BN web site here  And this is only one part of a large and restrictive bill.

See here for a report in the Mail on the re-opening of the beach.

There is a rather sour comment by David Horton-Fawkes, estates director at the Holkham Estate who commented that they were aware of the reversal of the decision banning naturism' following a threat of a judicial review by BN.

He also added that until now the ban on nudism had stopped the illegal activity that has plagued the beach.

Well it would with all the attendant publicity and increased patrols which should have taken place before the ban!

With an image of 2 naturists standing on the wet sand (where they are allowed to be).
