Nice pic!

Must admit we've wondered about getting one, for a bit of fun. But, as you say, can imagine it's something of a challenge to get decent photos without some serious practice.

Reckon your image - albeit posted upside down - is pretty impressive for a first try.

By the way, it looks a lovely location where you're enjoying the sun - interested to know where it is?

The tip is not to take it in a crowded place, coach load of Chinese visitors had one each in Amsterdam, rescued my glasses as one took them off with the phone attached to one of these, was like trying to get through a broken bamboo forest. They are a good tool though if you are on your own and want photos, or you have a partner that doesn't like the top of your head. 🙂

The have actually been banned in the Vatican I think haven't they?

I hadn't seen any in large numbers until we went on the Rotterdam ferry in January, and the lounge full of hen parties were all using them. It was a stick convention!

A good gadget for two people, if there is nobody around to take photos though they would take a bit of practice I think.

I've got a selfie stick - I call her Liz. She can be directed and usually takes a good pic.

with the exception of music venues most photos are a poor second to asking a friend to take the photo often giving a result of distorted of body shape and always showing a out stretched arm

Work usually has me up in London once or twice a month and my new found fitness regime has me try to walk more and use the tube less (weather permitting). As a result I have seen my fair share of tourists wafting them about and once got smacked around the head by a wayward selfie stick holding an iPad mini. Thankfully they were nice and very apologetic about it but most of the time I see them as hateful things, but that is my view of most selfies anyway.

I do own a Sony QX10 hybrid camera though. Does the same only 100 times better. That said perhaps not ideal in London etc. I have been told that the visiting students are told not to ask others they do not know to take pics as people invariably run off with the phone or camera (like in European Vacation with Chevy Chase).

The QX10 is a really good way to have a decent zoom camera and only need a small pocked to keep it in. I expect it will be obsolete tech by Christmas but I got it second hand (swapped it for a Garmin GPS watch my wife got for doing the marathon that we never use anymore).

I should also point out that the new vogue is to hold the selfie stick towards the floor pointing up but on reflection perhaps not the best idea for naturists?

I suppose people like to take "selfie" pics with others. I really would prefer to use th camera's delayed timer or a radio control device if I'm out walking.

I'm fortunate to own a decent DSLR. It amuses me that (mainly) Asian tourists will ask me to take their picture thinking I guess I know what I'm doing. (well sometimes!) This can result in some humour. I was asked to take a picture of some single guy outside some prominent building which I cheerfully did. As I walked away I said $20.00 please. His face was a picture. I laughed wished him a good holiday and walked on.

Perhaps selfies are safer! I suppose you can always photoshop out the pole.

Ah, Mykonos - not been there, but it does look delightful. And you've obviously found some good weather, as well as a great place to stay.

Certainly do see a lot of them on the streets of London. Very few people bother with an actual camera, and are happy with the mediocre results of phone/tablet pics that they can quickly share to social media. In many places it's impractical or prohibited to use a tripod, so it's not a bad option if you just want a snap of yourself in front of a tourist attraction.
