Inspired by Mark's piece on the main NC page (A Midsummer Nights Dream in the Out and About section), I've just been for a night time stroll.

I waited until midnight to give all the pub leavers time to get home as I didn't want to meet anyone or offend anyone. Quick check of the temperature gauge in the car showed 5 degrees. It was going to be a chilly one but I was determined to do it.

I drove with the window down to acclimatise a bit, then parked in a layby and peeled off. Actually not a cold as I thought it would be. Unlike Mark I did wear boots as I was going to be on some muddy and rocky ground.

Then a quick check that there were no people around, and off I went. It all went very well. No slips or falls, and no people so it was everything I hoped for.

As I approached my car again some headlights started down the road so I quickly nipped behind the back of my car to hide from them. Successfully as it happens šŸ™‚

I wasn't quite ready to head home so I strode up the hill to another field and walked for another 15 mins or so before the cold started to get the better of me.

I'm really happy I gave it a go and will very likely repeat it, only on a warmer night!

Does anyone else do any night walking?

Well done you!Ā  You achieved what you had wanted to do and seemed to enjoy the experience!Ā  Agree about it being nicer when the weather is a bit warmer, so keep us posted on your next midnight skinny ramble !Ā  [smiley=clap.gif]

The only night walking Ken does is to the loo! He is naked, does that count?!Ā  ;D

I have also sometimes found myself wanting the experience to go on a bit longer, and I have extended the walk as you did. Walking naked can be addictive !

Yes, although not with such a late start as you. Walks that are local to me (that do not require a drive to get to the start) can only be done naked after dark, as they are too close to houses and roads. I tend to go out mid evening at around 20.00hrs. For it to be sufficiently dark at that time, means that I'm generally only looking at doing those walks between September and April, and of course when the weather is mild.

Great that your saw a badger. Never had the pleasure myself. Last night was limited to a couple of deer. Was great to be at one with nature for a while tho.

Never been out walking naked, but a midnight stroll sounds like a good idea.......just have to think of an excuse for going out at that time lol

I am definitely a couple, but regrettably single in my naturist tendencies.......for now, mwah ha ha ha!!!

Glad my story inspired you! šŸ™‚

I love walking naked pretty much whatever the weather, but mostly daytime requires the need for caution to avoid meeting anyone. I am lucky in that there are lots of local areas that are "off the beaten track" so the opportunity often comes my way.

However there is something ethereal about walking naked at night, especially on one of those warm summer nights.

...

Well done on your foray into the night.

Mark.

I have never tried a night walk. Did you take a torch with you?

I imagine it's lovely with a full moon on a clear night.

i never take a torch..... theres often some light, either moon or stars or even a light cloudy sky....it only takes a few minutes for the eyes to adjust to the gloom.   if you use a torch you only see whats in the light and the light of the torch can be seen for miles....its the same with car headlights you can see them coming miles away and the occupants can only see whats in front of them in the light . . the intention is to remain unnoticed and see or hear anyone else before they see you...

Yeah, what Ric said. It's amazing how quickly your eyes do adjust to the gloom. Definitely won't use a torch, and even the other night on a waning moon, there was plenty of light once I was accustomed to it.

I had a couple of dusk walks last week (early morning and sunset) on a section of the Pennine Way just north of you (from Blackstone Edge Reservoir going north). The two evening walks both turned to night time walks but there was no problem following the path in the moonlight.

This was one of about 40 pictures I took of me on this bridge. I tried on two successive days to get these shots but given that I was walking just before dawn in the morning and just after sunset in the evening the light was rather low and any movement at all blurred the picture, hence the seated pose.

While I was taking this sequence of pictures I spotted a jogger approaching from behind me. I was able to finish the set, cover up for a moment and then take a few more once he'd passed.

This picture is probably my favourite of the bridge pictures from last week:

This picture was taken at the end of the Blackstone Edge dam fairly late in the day on Monday as the light was fading. I did not expect anyone else to be out and about in the gathering gloom so I was rather surprised to hear the gateĀ  by the road open and two young women (chattering loudly) enter the path. They were far enough away that I was able to finish the set before walking on. Although I expected them only to walk to the end of the dam they followed me for another half mile or so before I sat on a rock to let them pass and then continued naked behind them where I could keep an eye on where they were but stay with my chosen state of dress hidden by the distance and the failing light.

Eventually they turned back and I took a detour off the path to stay out of sight while they passed. I was able to continue my walk with only one more brief cover up for a guy walking solo in near total darkness, we exchanged greetings but no more.

The pub (The White House) near to where I'd parked my car provided a very pleasant pint and good food before I returned to my hotel room that evening. If you find yourself in the area I would not hesitate to suggest you try the pub.

So go on, enjoy a night time walk, it does not have to be stupidly late to be fun (though now the clocks have changed an evening walk will be a little later than it was last week).

Have fun,

Ian.

Hi
I went to Nocton Woods last week, but only had enough time to sit in the car park and eat my lunch before having to leave.  I'll try to find a day when I have a longer lunch break.  It's quite isolated, and by looking on satellite pics/maps it looks as though short walks in there could be quite pleasant.

Hi

Of course there is another aspect of night walking that is worth considering.

It is quite feasible to walk naked at night in places where you couldn't/wouldn't walk in daylight.

You can walk through towns, residential areas, across golf courses and along river banks/canal tow paths quite easily at night.  You can even climb over the gates (carefully) into local parks and wander about at night.  Just be sure no other nocturnal activities take place where you intend to walk!

This obviously only applies to smaller towns and villages not major town centres where there is always activity through the night.  Although I do remember leaving a pub in Stratford, East London many years ago and walking back to a friend's house naked.

You do have to pick your time carefully and wait for pubs and clubs to close.  You also have to wait for everyone to have gone home.  You also need to check out your planned walk carefully, especially for CCTV cameras.  Don't worry about walking past houses; who looks out of their windows when it's dark - there's nothing to see!

This sort of walking is probably better suited to warm evenings; you're going to look a bit suspicious if seen in shorts and a tee shirt on a cold night.  (You could pretend to be a runner I suppose.)

Late at night, or early in the morning, away from busy routes everything is quiet.  Any traffic is soon heard and you have time to avoid being seen.  You can simply melt into the shadows in between street lights and you'll never be seen.  Look next time you're driving at night; you don't have time and can't see anything in the shadows.

I've left my house naked and wandered down to the local shops and back home via a circuitous route without having to cover-up once, although this was at 2.00 in the morning.  The local golf course is another lovely walk which can be carried out barefoot.

I guess this could all be classed as secret naturism but does it really matter?

There are countless possibilities out there, if you can stay awake!

I agree with everything Martin says in his post, and have had many pleasant walks in the early hours. I leave home naked and don't carry anything with me, and have walked for anything from a few minutes to about 45 minutes, depending on the temperature. I try to walk at least once each month throughout the year.

I have been seen at a distance on a few occasions, but only once at close quarters when I didn't notice that a parked car contained four young people - at about 2 30am! They were very curious about what I was doing but did not cause me any bother.

I once managed to forget about one of our CCTV cameras and walked past it twice. I doubt whether it was being monitored at the time, but if it was I probably caused some amusement in the control room!
