Sorry to hear this David. I presume you were parked up at the Budby road junction. As I heard from friends that they had seen a group of naturists out on
Friday.
Did you notice the colour and model of car he drove? might be helpful when out and about in the future.
I have met a few people while out lately but none seemed concerned at all, as said there will always be the odd one now and again.
So far no problem. Yes we were parked there. Sorry I didn't notice the colour or reg of the car. I wished I had thought to take a photo before we drove off. He had his wife with him and she had a smallish dog but I didn't notice what sort it was as she walked on and left him with us. I suspect he has reported seeing naked people in the past and been told it is not illegal by the police. I think he was just trying to put the frighteners on us, but it didn't work.
As you say it is rare for this sort of thing to happen, if it does it is necessary to hold your ground but stay calm, don't sink to their level. Remember as long as we are doing nothing wrong the police can be our friends against people like this as long as we act and behave properly.
Below is part of an email that the warden for the RSPB at Budby has sent me.
It’s got to a point now where we have had several comments about naturists, and while most of them are relatively appeased by our response, there have now been a few incidents where the naturists encountered (new faces to the area I believe) have been quite provocative to other visitors to Budby. Not in a sexual way, but in a ‘I’ve been given permission so there’ type way.
You know that I promote and expect compromise from all user groups, and this extends to the naturist community.
Chloe is in currently writing up a policy on Naturism, I have no idea what it is going to say but I am hoping that she will consider the way that Naturists should be fairly treated as well and that we should not have to put up with abuse from the few people who feel we should not be naked in public. I will post her policy when I receive it, fingers crossed it will positive. I would hate to have to fall out with her if it isn’t.
In the meantime the RSPB have never given their permission because they have never been asked for it. They have simply accepted that Naturists have been using the area for many years and have been fairly supportive so far. Please do not say that we have permission from the RSPB if challenged. I always say it is not illegal and to ring the police if they will not listen to me when I try to talk to them about the College of Policing Guidelines.
Shame about this but there will always be those that will push the boundaries.
I have just returned from 5 weeks in Spain so not been out for a while. May be later this evening though, I'm looking forward to seeing the changes in the forest while I've been away.
I was told before I went on holiday by a lady I see regularly that she has been seeing more and more naturists in the forest as she walks her dogs there three times a day.
I returned from holiday on the 7th September and have managed to walk in Sherwood for a couple of hours every evening since.
The last couple of days this week I have not seen anyone.
I did see a couple of blokes going out camping for the night on Saturday they asked if I'd lost my clothes to which I said no, just making the most of the weather.
It's a shame some people have to spoil things, I have read many of your stories Gildo about your walks in the forest, I am truly envious. Sherwood forest is along way from my home so to get there would only be very hard as I would have to visit alone (if walking naked) as my wife is a dedicated textile. Last weekend I got the chance with my wife to visit the area near centre parks on a caravan site Sherwood forest holiday park, the weekend was very wet but during a drier spell my wife I took a walk along a path next to the forest and my thoughts went wild as I had images of you and other naturist walking deep in the forest looking out for deer, squirrels, etc and me joining in to, sadly this was not going to happen for me, but I can understand why it's such a great experience and people wanting to walk naked around Sherwood forest.
Enjoy
BE HAPPY BEING NUDE!
Pity you didn't get chance to give it ago because of the weather, there are some beautiful walks in Sherwood, may be next time give a heads up and we could advise best routes to avoid the masses.
I myself have been unable/willing to venture out since Friday last due to the persistent rain, I'm no wimp but it's lousy at the moment. I'm usually out most evenings till the clocks alter it's dark when I get home after that.
I've got to admit I am missing my fix of nudity and hope the rain stops soon, so does the dog 😉
Managed a hour and half this evening. was 10 degrees but felt much colder exhilarating all the same.
Must admit I was feeling the chill by the time I returned to my car.
Soon be weekends only once we alter the clocks
Had a pleasant 8.5 mile naked walk this afternoon. Met quite a few people including the warden and her working party. Everyone was very pleasant except for near the end of my walk when I saw Mr I am offended even though he had turned off the path that we were walking on before I was anywhere near him. He waited long enough to call me a pervert though, so I just informed him I was a naturist. When he started on about being offended, I just reminded him that he was choosing to be offended and I was not doing anything except walking and I had no intention of offending him. I also let him know that there is no law for choosing to be offended.
I was out yesterday, early evening. Cut my walk short though as it became apparent that there was a young persons orienteering event happening.
Decided it was best to avoid them.
Just back i from an 8.5 naked walk in Sherwood Forest. As there was very little wind it didn't feel cold even though the air temperature was only about 11 degrees C. At one point I walked across a path with about 20 walkers approaching from the side. I could hear giggles and things like I wish I had brought my camera but everyone seemed in good spirits. I met more people than I expected on a very dull day that looked like it might rain any minute. I met a lady I met a couple of years ago, she had a huge wicker basket full of fungi just as she had when I last met her. She recognised me and asked how I was as she hadn't seen me for some time so we had a little chat and I let her know that the warden wouldn't be too happy if she caught her with a basket full of fungi especially as there are posters everywhere saying don't pick them. At this time of year it is very common to find the Poles collecting fungi and trying to hide so no one see what they are doing. Most of them carry a knife as well to cut the stalks, I suspect that carrying a knife in these circumstances might be illegal but I am not sure. Even though it was a cloudy day it was great to get out into the countryside again after spending nearly 3 months in Spain, Its amazing how a naked body can adapt from 25 degrees C to 11 in only a few days.

At the moment there's a police car on the road so I've just asked them about the knife. If it's less than 4 inches and non retractable then it's OK as there is a legitimate reason for carrying it.

That was handy, thank you.

id check that, i was sure it had to be a non locking folding blade , ie a traditional pocket knife. all mine were locking blades, cos a non locking one can fold onto your fingers, so i dont carry one now
It has to be a blade no more that 3" in length - it must not have a locking blade - it cannot be a flick knife, or gravity blade knife - if you now conform to these rules, it then becomes UK legal - however, if you get stopped by the police with a UK legal knife in your possession, in a public place, you will have to provide a valid reason for carrying it.
