Hi, another naturist and myself had a 6 mile walk in Sherwood Forest today. We visited St. Edwins chapel cross an ancient site where travellers could get refreshed or sleep over night many centuries ago. We met a few members of the public and cyclists but not many. It got a bit chilly towards the end but it was very good to get out on a naked walk again and a have a good chat. All being well we may go for a walk if the weather is still dry this week or next.
Just returned from a wonderful couple of hours round Budby and Sherwood Forest. 17 degrees and a warm breeze, quite strong at times. The place felt deserted, so quiet. I nearly stood on a young rabbit in one spot.
I love to see the numerous different Fungi at this time of year.Â
Didn't see anyone until about 5 minutes from the end, I turned round at one of the cattle grids to check on the dog just in time to see a mountain biker taking a sneaky photo of me from behind. I do wonder what these guys want with these photos.Â
I have been full of cold since last week so have been a bit dubious about walking outside naked but I must say I feel a whole lot better for having done so. My nose has cleared, my chest has cleared and the best bit is the pressures of work seem to disappear totally. Soon be weekends only for me once the darker nights arrive. I hate winter, not only for the walking but work also gets a bit chilly at times.
@tribalbrit A notice has appeared on the swinecoat Road which is the road from Edwinstowe to the Worksop Road car park. I have no idea what they’re going to be doing in the forest that takes this long but no doubt they’re going to create mayhem. The notice says due to essential remediation work being carried out by the Ministry of defence on the reserve, this car park will be temporarily closed from the 8th of November 2021 for approximately 12 weeks. This is in order to protect visitors from moving heavy plant and machinery please use the main car park at the RSPB Sherwood visitors centre
Thanks for that will avoid that area for now.
I was told a while ago by David the warden that the reason the cows weren't on all parts of the common was because there was a fear that more parts than the one fenced off had been used to store munitions stored on it.
There is fear that as the cattle are part of the food chain, contamination could occur.Â
Perhaps they are now clearing the land properly.
@tribalbrit Blimey its going to look like a bomb site then.
Looking like a bomb site is better than being one. As a child I would play on bomb sites. It was not unheard of for munitions to explode.
@hillwalker I used to play there as a child often finding ammunition and taking i home when it was used by he MOD.
The sun shone today and it was 10 degrees C so I decided to go for a naked walk in Sherwood Forest. I walked naked for 6 miles and made no attempt to cover up at any point. I met 6 different cyclists at different times. 2 female joggers in different places, a man and a woman walking together, and a couple of cyclist who were looking at one of the place maps in the forest. I just smiled and said a few words to each of them and they just smiled back and said hello. A very enjoyable walk but I was walking over 4 mph in order to keep warm.
I have been out today in Sherwood Forest in a wind chill of 5 degrees C. Walked 4.5 miles and met several people who were all very nice an smiley. I was walking between 4 and 4.5 miles an hour and at this pace I can keep warm. I just have a small drawstring bag with a thermal t shirt in it in case I start to feel cold. Work has started to rip everything up in the forest near the Swinecoat road car park, what a mess.
I went for a 5.5 mile naked walk yesterday. I met David the RSPB warden for Sherwood Forest. He told me that the MOD are not going to start work as planned. So he will take the car park closure notice down until they give him a new date. He also told me that Chloe will be returning from maternity leave soon. He will stay as well for a few months.
There were a few people about and everyone was very pleasant.
If the MOD is involved normally it is to remove old audinance - often chemicals rather than bombs - they closed an area of a wood near Market Rasen to do this earlier in the year.
@jmnude The warden told me that the area concerned with was an ammunition dump and they think there is more there. There was also a tank on the spot may years ago. We used to play on it as children and we often found and played with live ammunition. I guess we were lucky we never got hurt.
