I like taking pictures of things, and when we go for a walk (clothed) I always have a camera with me to take pictures of the waterfall, bridge, building, landscape, us, etc.

I do the same when walking nude, but it always feels wrong especially if you have nothing else but a camera (I prefer my SLR, but have a small compact as well). I've considered a small rucksack, rather than my more formal camera bag - that just seems wrong walking naked with a camera bag, but a rucksack is more of a fiddle.

I also do take pictures of me in various places - pictures after all are to jog the memory so naturally a tripod is required.

At the moment I've settled on using my compact camera with a small tripod and carry it in one hand, with my shorts if I have them.

What do others do?

As I usually like to take videos and carry a water bottle in hot weather I usually use a backpack.

It leaves my hands free and feels less encumbering than anything else I've tried.

Small compact camera, tripod and rucksack, I would normally carry food and a drink with me too so the rucksack is used for that along with my clothes.

I take a slightly older compact. It is quite versatile but if I fell and broke it it wouldn't be the end of the world. I use a Lumix TZ9 but for more sedate activities I use a TZ60 with the added advantage of RAW files. I have a Nikon SLR but it's far too big and heavy for walking.

If i'm travelling light on a hike in the hills I use a messenger bag [single strap over one shoulder]. This holds snacks, clothes [when i'm naked], my Canon Sureshot camera and a small, lightweight tripod [Amazon basic]. It is much handier to reach into than a backpack, your back is better ventilated and it is useful to swing round to the front if you need to cover up unexpectedly! It isn't so good, however, if you are climbing and need to use your hands.

Exactly this....
I paid over £100 for a very good lumia camera, very small , great pictures... BUT, my Samsung galaxy S7 takes photos just as good if not slightly better

On our trip to maspalomas last February I used my phone to take photos of us on the dunes, mainly because I'd didn't want to risk damaging an expensive camer with sand.
Also a phone is less obtrusive. Not that I would photograph anyone who is naked without their permission, its just that an SLR or other large camera in a naturist environment will always raise a few eye brows.

well all - thanks for the advice.

Re using phones instead of cameras - I must admit I must be a bit of an old so and so on that point,
(1) I don't take my phone with me everywhere and definitely not on walks (clothed or not)
(2) I agree that phones are a lot better at picture than they were, but they are not a match to a camera with a lens for anything but basic snaps
(3) I know iPhones have self timers and probably remotes (others don't) and I know you can get tripod stands etc for them - but I have all that already for my 'real SLR' camera (with various lenses) and my compact camera.

So I've decided to opt for a small pouch bag - I actually use on my bike that I can strap on my wrist for my compact camera, small tripod etc and has enough room for shorts, car keys (phone if I wish) and a small bottle of water. Its also not a problem to run / jog with - I also do nude jogging when I can.

Re cameras on the nude beach - I have never understood why there is such a taboo with cameras and nudity. If people are nudists and think there is nothing wrong with being nude and most like to take pictures of events in our lives then why not when we are nude; but naturally of ourselves not random other people (but I suspect that's another topic - or an extension of this?), would people be just as annoyed on a textile beach? I do agree sand and cameras don't get on well and most of the time on the beach - a holiday snap is what's needed. But as it has been pointed out, holding a phone up most people still think your checking text, emails etc rather than taking pictures, video's  or streaming to a website- at least with a camera you're being honest, allowing people to see you're not taking pictures of them!

Glad you have sorted out a system that suits you JM. As for the last part of the above I expect you are right, it is a whole different topic, an interesting one though.

I would respectfully suggest that, if out walking, an accident should happen, a phone would come in very handy

Two things re carry a phone in case there is an accident...

  • Out walking in the country often there is no phone signal
before mobile phones many of us humans managed to get along and live our lives without issue.

I agree. In days of old we relied on a whistle, and I still have one. Incidentally if the signal is weak consider sending text in an emergency. You will need to register. See here If you google "register text emergency calling" you can find other sites with information. Its also useful of course for the elderly or sick who live in an area with an iffy phone signal.

112 is pan European and available in the USA, Australia, Canada, India, Pakistan, 70+ countries worldwide.

I also use the phones GPS to give me a grid reference in areas that are difficult to navigate. The OS Locate app is useful and has a "silva" type compass.

When out walking take something fluorescent and bright, have been in the military and at helicopter height it is difficult to spot people in there dark or even red clothing. Don't stand up waving it, place it on the ground in a clear area.

I always take my phone with me when walking, naked or clothed. It has a fairly reliable pedometer on it... No other reason. It's usually on silent so as not to disturb the peace.
