I've just had a look at Bedouin on Michelin maps and I assume it is 04250.
I'm planning to visit Belezy in late June next year - is there any chance that you might be around Jacques?

John, it is Bedoin, not Bedouin, and the code is 84410; the département is Vaucluse, and the nearest town is Carpentras.
We love Bélézy in June and we make a point of spending some time there in that part of the year, but there is so much to be done in June that we can never be sure that we can be there at a given time until a few weeks before. Do get in touch when you have your precise dates there - we'll keep a bottle of the local sweet white wine "Muscat de Beaumes de Venise" in the fridge.

Well, even if you speak French quite well as I know you do, this is the sort of typo that is easily made while spelling foreign words, especially place names.
I once heard of a French couple following their satnav blindly to a spot in Italy only to find when they arrived that they had got one letter wrong with the name of the place and they had strayed 300 miles off course.

My cousin and his wife admitted that once when driving through France, they were trying to find Suivre, which appeared to be in the direction they were heading,as it was shown on the sign posts!

It is now possible to walk across the main square of the village naked. Although the rules (where you are allowed to be nude, where you arer not allowed to be nude, and where you must be nude), have not been changed, the local council has asked the police to allow naturists to walk across the square naked provided they don't "stop ostensibly" or have a drink in one of the cafés there.

Thank you for sharing that news about the square, Jacques. I wonder it will change anything in practice?

My wife and I used to sling our towels over one shoulder and let it hang down when walking across the square; that perfunctory gesture of tongue-in-cheek obedience to the by-laws will not even be necessary now.
That's part of the folklore slipping away - but we will nevertheless still have as much fun as before.

Ten years ago I walked across the square in my fishnet g-string thong and I have vivid memories of a lady wearing a pareo through the square which was flowing out behind her like batman's cape in the breeze leaving her effectively totally naked.

Quite. The limits of the by-law relating to the village square have long been repeatedly tested.
As for the harbour, no change in the by-law has been announced but it has long been a tradition, when seeing off friends who are leavind the island, to walk right to the end of the wharf, to disrobe as the boat is backing out of the harbour and to wave goodbye to one's friends with whatever one was wearing. This is the traditional "Levant farewell".

On my list of places to go, especially after seeing the Zita Dans video on You Tube!

One day 🙂

If you're a couple in the Midlands and are under 50...say hi.

There was another interesting programme about Île du Levant that was shown on the France 3 TV channel last Saturday afternoon. The video (52 minutes) is available at http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3awlgp_du-soleil-sur-ma-peau_tv - lot of interviews with local people and holiday-makers, in French, of course...
The programme ends with the traditional "Levant farewell" that I was mentioning in an earlier post.
