I agree, it's a lovely walk to the beach and when you get there it is a superb place

I took a walk along the beach this evening. Really is a pleasant place to walk. Look forward to visiting during the day sometime

I've never been to Holkham - but hope to visit there soon.  I suppose for me, the long walk might be a pleasure - but the walk back to the car a bit of a drag (getting back to the presures of whatever I've managed to leave behind with my clothes for a few hours).

Does that make sense?  It did when it was in my head!

I've had a couple of trips to Holkham this year and the weather has been absolutely wonderful. I enjoy the walk to the beach but the journey back is always a bit depressing - having to wear clothes again and one day nearer to going back to work!

just a note for those who are planning on visiting this year, the car park on Lady Anne's Drive is now £5 for a stay of three hours or more. Sadly the man who used to collect the car park fees has been replaced by a number of "Pay and Display" ticket machines. This means that you need to have £5 in coins to put in the machine. Be prepared. I saw lots of people who were caught out by this. (As was I a few weeks ago!)

If you plan ahead (and trust the internet with your bankcard details) there is an option to pay on-line.

I tried this last weekend and was only charged £3.50 to park for the whole day. I'm not sure if this means there's a discount for on-line payments or if they've simply got it wrong on the webpage. It worked for me!

Now I wonder what I can fritter away that £1.50 saving on... 😀

I managed two visits to Holkham last weekend - well Friday and Saturday and really enjoyed my few hours there. On previous visits I have been blown off. Whilst the walk takes about 30 minutes along the path and through the trees I find that so peaceful.

Glad to see that plenty of couples are using Holkham beach. I was there week last monday and got the impression it was 'men only' day.

I really like going to Holkham. I stay at a campsite in Wells and then cycle along to costal path to Holkham.
It's a lovely place.

Finding myself working in Norfolk this week and reading about the wind at Holkham, I decided to go down on Monday evening and fly a kite on the beach (I get bored just sunbathing). Sods law, there was no wind.  Managed to go again Tuesday evening and had more luck with a warm breeze and loads of space.  I was also totally in love with this beach, with the dunes, space and scenery.  Can't wait until I'm up that way again.

Has any of the locals to Holkham beach heard what is going on there? I have seen some worrying posts on Facebook about sexual behaviour and the authorities being upset. I hope this is not going to be the next beach to lose official status.

Watch out for the squirrels

We have been to Holkman many many times over the years and have even managed to strip off on valentines day when it was unseasonably warm!!

However when walking through the woods look out for baby squirrels falling from the trees. One dropped in front of us, paniced and climbed up my leg and stayed there for 10 minutes. A lady photographer was so impressed that she squatted down to take a photo but missed the fact that a nettle was growing with unfortunate consequences - ouch.

Be warned they have sharp claws
