I went along to the BN Beach Day at Budleigh Salterton yesterday out of interest and to see what they were promoting.
There was a gazebo on the beach at the start of the naturist area with a number of people gathered. There was nothing to actually indicate what was going on. However, on speaking to the group it seemed that the organisers hadn't turned up, for whatever reason, and they had left things in the hands of local representatives. These reps hadn't been briefed on what to do/say!
They all seemd to be having a good time and we had a nice chat but I wasn't at all clear about what the day was all about. I was offered half-price membership of BN but what I would receive for my money wasn't explained. As I wasn't carrying any money I declined!
I wonder is this typical of other beach days?

It's obviously disappointing that this beach 'day' didn't really amount to very much, but in my view it's not really very surprising. BN is trying really hard to promote itself on a larger number of beaches this year and this was the first time they had 'put in the diary' a date for Budleigh. I know this was one of 6-7 days planned in the south-west alone and it became impossible for the regional representatives to attend and engage at all of them due to other commitments. I for one would have happily attended yesterday to chat to people and especially to put faces to names of people such as yourself, but yesterday was my wedding anniversary and wife would have killed me if i'd brought her down to BS as a 'surprise'!
BN is a sum of its members. I can only hope that more people come forward to get involved and engage with non-members at the beach days. I for one will try hard to help out and will talk to people like Judith shortly about next year's events. This was a first attempt and lots of lessons can be learnt.
