I'd decided I would try and find a beach to go nude on during a Lake District holiday I was taking in early October 2005. I did some research on the internet which turned up one or two possibilities, as well as giving me some general information on naturism. In the end I pored over a map and found a beach at Silcroft in the S.W of the Lake District, which looked as though it should be quiet enough, once one was clear of the village and parking area. Also there was no cliff path overlooking the beach in that area.

The day I went on was dull and an little on the cool side, well it was October. I walked northwards along the shingle and keep going until I was well passed another walker who was coming slowly towards me from the opposite direction. Then after a final look around, I undressed, and walked into the sea which wasn't too cold. I enjoyed swimming naked, but after moving back on the shingle beach and having lunch, I dressed as I was Starting to get cold.

The next day was warm and sunny, I did a walk with friends which we finished by mid afternoon, and since I was only 30mins or so away form Silcroft I decided to go again. There wasn't time to walk as far as I had on the previous day, and there were a few more people around. I had a swim with my trunks on, but afterwards I moved to the base of the cliff and took them off, and spend a very pleasant hour there, just occasionally pulling the towel over me when someone was passing by. In the end a combination of the setting sun, and another person getting close, brought the session to an end, but by then I had definitely decided that I wanted to get into the lifestyle.

My first time naked with others was at Rios (in north London), about four months later. My initial apprehension disappeared once inside, and I felt very comfortable whilst there.

I can only add that I wish I started sooner.

That is a sentiment shared by so many John. Irene & I were lucky in that Brighton Nudist Beach had just been given 'official' CO status & we dared each other. Well we "did it" & the rest is history. But in your case I think you were very brave in trying it alone and in a place not authorised for such pleasures, I'm not sure I would have attempted it there for the first time.
The main advantage I can see about enjoying the freedom in the Lake District is much nicer scenery in the surrounding area, unlike Brighton with pebbles, the concrete marina and pier to look at.
