As I don't live that far from Luton I can take advantage of the odd cheap flight ands I saw one day that EasyJet were advertising a service to Rijeka (since withdrawn as is the way with such things). I did a bit of investigation, found it was in Croatia and likely to be sunny then booked a car and a hotel called Vispera at Mali Losinj and thought no more of it until I arrived there.
The hotel is quite large but low rise and surrounded by dense woods. It is twinned with another hotel in the same complex called Aurora. I visited the sandy beach to the left of Vispera a few times but wasn't that impressed - mainly Italian families and as a single bloke I felt out of place. I turned right one morning and went in the direction of the beach on the Aurora side of the complex and saw this gateway marked FKK which meant nothing to me at the time but I saw a number of people entering with towels and assumed there was a beach on that side so I went along as well. The gatekeeper suddenly became very agitated as I sauntered past the gatehouse and explained I needed to pay to go in. Once I had paid my 50p or whatever it was in Kuna I noticed a naked couple walking toward me (shock horror) and all around the rocky beach there were hundreds more like them. I took my courage in both hands found a spot and stripped off. The earth did not swallow me up. Nothing much happened at all actually but within 2 minutes I felt comfortable and completely at my ease. One thing I did observe was that my bottom turned bright red presumably because it was not used to being exposed to the sun. I was expecting the front to be more of a problem (particularly the bit which on most other men is covered by a foreskin) and I was concerned that over-vigorous application of sun oil might be open to misrepresentation - but all was OK.
Since then I've not looked back. The only regret is that I did not do it sooner.

Your first experience sounds not unlike my own. I was a bit younger than you but not much and like you regret that I had not tried it years earlier. The first time is always daunting but for most of us the sense freedom makes everything else fly out of the window. Our first beach visit was in Crete but since then we have visited beaches on other Greek Islands, mainland Spain and Croatia. We have never joined any clubs back home though when we go on holiday we look out for any nude beaches and if we find them we(well me anyway) always go bare. Sadly now my wife is older she has become more self conscious and less inclined to find beaches - we always holiday together so the options are quite limited.
