I’ll try and tell this story in a manner which shouldn’t offend anyone!!

It was probably 5 years ago when we decided that we should mature form being naked around our own home and garden and into the public arena.

As novice naturists finding somewhere proved quite difficult. We didn’t wish to join a club (and still don’t) and wanted to simply turn up and try it.

The search lead us to Doncaster Dome; where the Spa allowed mixed and costume free adults on a Saturday night.

After several weeks of visiting we had worked out that there was a core of regulars, who were very friendly. After a few further visits and the occasional ‘roaming hand’ we realised that they wanted to be more than just friendly! Making our position quite clear they understood and accepted that we weren’t there for the same reasons they were. No problems at all, and we carried on enjoying a Saturday night naturist Spa.

After a while we had a short break.

Upon returning we found that this ‘core’ of individuals had become far more open about their activities and were now quite happy to be watched by others.

Now, public massages is one thing and quite acceptable to us; however, walking into the steam room to find a woman bringing a man to an orgasmic state was a little too much information. Perhaps we should really have expected it having just passed their respective partners on the way to the steam room, but naive we were.

We didn’t return after that for about a year and found a costume must be worn policy had by then been introduced.

Since our public naturism has been abroad on hot sandy beaches and our UK based naturism has remained in our home and garden. Over the last couple of years we’ve been fortunate enough to acquire a sauna and hot tub and have enjoyed their use many an evening with friends (cloths optional).

Dear Whynots, perhaps your story illustrates the point of joining a club after all...  🙂

I am a member of a swim where I find the folk respectable and respectful. I find the club to have been welcoming and fun and a sort of quiet way. I've never seen anything going that I would be embarrassed to tell say my wife about. To me it's naturism as it should be and the club web site is quite clear that anybody coming for anything other than straightforward naturism on offer will soon be shown the door.

...and we had to stop enquires for a while as there were too many for the facilities. Good standards = success.

I fully accept that clubs aren't everyones cup of tea (and it might not be for you) but please don't dismiss a club out of hand they can be great fun and you do have the chance to meet like minded people though-out the year and you can still be a beach or free-range naturist as well.

I should really comment on the main point of this story, the few ruining it for the many.

But ... I wish i had a hot tub and sauna at home 🙂

If you're a couple in the Midlands and are under 50...say hi.

The swims listed by BN and NUFF are the respectable ones (E&OE).

whynot, as John GW says the swims listed by BN and NUFF should be fine. Whilst there is nothing wrong with the clubs, you don't have to join one to avoid the problems you encountered.

We used to go to Doncaster and Stoke before the wife became disabled. No problems at all encountered.
We did join a local swim near to where we once lived. We would take our little one in to the learners pool and everytime we went in 2 blokes would follow and just sit in the corners of the pool and would only leave after our child had got out.
We only went 3 times and not been to a nude swim since.
I have been nude and swam nude on  deserted beaches before the public arrived. One last year we got talking to a couple whos daughter had made friends with ours said they had seen me from the top of the cliffs.  They said they were not naturists but would not be offended if the beaches were costume optional.

Like "Whynot" as a couple we have never wanted to join a club or even visit a naturist swim/sauna in the UK.  Having said I fail to see the need to wear a costume in any sauna and think there should be clothing optional sessions at quieter times in public pools.  Our naturism is largely confined to continental beaches on holiday which we really appreciate and enjoy.  We do relax nude in the house and garden when it is warm enough but this does not compare with the beach at all.  Nearly all our friends are textile and few of them know of our beach habits; when we have let it slip the reaction varies from "How could you?" to "We've tried it too?"

As she has got older, though still good looking, my wife has become distinctly cool regarding any naturism at all though I still look forward to the occasional beach experience.  Indoors it is similar my wife has taken to wearing night clothes and dressing gown whereas I always sleep nude and frequently wander naked around the house temperature permitting.  We have never come across any inappropriate behaviour on the beach though I know it does happen, in fact we once (horror) made love in a very quiet place where I don't think anyone saw us.

May be it is just that us males simply do not become self conscious as we get older, indeed if anything we become even less inhibited.

My wife has, if anything, got much less self conscious about her body as she aged.
