If my experience when I had to go into hospital is anything to go by:

(i) They are almost rotten having been neglected for so long and will rip at the slightest touch.

and (not applicable in your case)

(ii) 'er indoors will forbid you to be seen in public in such disreputable garments and insist on buying you two new pairs. (Which are now mouldering in the back of a drawer where the old ones were).
