I was exploring an area of woodland just off the Ridgeway the other day when Taz told me there was someone approaching. I had plenty of time to put my wrap on before the hiker came into sight but did not bother to put my t-shirt back on.

He came around a corner on a track a few seconds later, talking to Taz and grinning as he did. He was wrapped up in goretex over trousers, mountain jacket heavy boots and a woolly hat. He looked at me and I commented that I was surprised he was not melting under all that lot. That prompted a grin and a comment of "But you look as though you are hiking in Germany". I queried what he meant and he replied that "you often meet naked hikers in Germany".

The conversation moved to how he felt about that and he said it really did not bother him one way or the other and that if I was more comfortable naked he would not be bothered by it. Taking him at his word I stripped off and put my skirt back into my bag; he did not bat an eyelid and we spent a few minutes discussing the best routes to walk out of the heavy foot traffic in the area before he took his leave and continued on his way.

I don't think I have ever enjoyed an unplanned encounter with a textile hiker before (even though the usual lack of reaction is quite empowering in retrospect).

Have fun,

Ian.

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago.

I was out walking naked down a track, which lead through a gate with a metal latch which made quite a noise when used, into an open field.  While on the track I had glanced behind me and had seen that I wasn't being followed.

However, as I crossed the open field I heard the clash of the latch on the gate.  I looked back and I saw some one coming through the gate.  I swiftly covered up with a brief wrap that I was carrying and kept walking.

The person who had been behind me soon caught me up and we exchanged greetings and a few words about the weather.  It wasn't sunny but it was warm.  He was in shorts and a tee shirt.  Somehow the conversation turned to my wrap and I found myself explaining that it was merely a cover up and I had been wearing less a few minutes previously.  We then got on to talking about the ancient Greeks and the fact that they carried out their sports while naked.  He said he wasn't bothered by nudity and I said well if you don't mind I'll carry on walking in the nude.

We walked for quite some distance together; he didn't seem the least bit bothered by my lack of clothes.  We talked as we walked but the question of nudity didn't arise again.  After a while he took a different path to me and we said goodbye to each other.

I thought afterwards, that's how it should be.  It's like that old saying 'live and let live'.

Thanks for the reply Martin, I can only agree that the acceptance, rather than mere tolerance, of my nudity was hugely uplifting. The fact that it was not the focus of our conversation made that all the more true.

Have fun,

Ian.

Similar to this encounter, where the conversation was mostly about gardening.
