Anyone know of any good places to walk/skinnydip around the loughborough area?

Thanks

Notts - should change this to Lough by now 🙂

When I was at university there (too long ago to want to hang a date on it) I used to walk extensively in the woods around Woodhouse Eaves and Beacon Hill. I recall climbing the little cliff under the beacon naked on one occasion.

I have to say that when I stopped in a year or two ago the car parks were still there but are now much busier and the paths have all been "improved" with loads of sharp road scrapings making them mud free and wheelchair / buggy friendly, but horrible under bare feet. It may simply be too busy for naked wandering there now.

I skinny dipped a couple of times in the Soar just south of Normanton-on-Soar and in a flooded pit at Swarkestone. (There used to be an excellent pub there where the landlord brewed his own beer; unfortunately the pub was called the John Thomas and the beer John Thomas Special. That might have been a marketing error  ::) )

Have fun,

Ian.

Sorry to learn you're out of work. I've spent too much time in the same situation over the last year or two and am still only managing to do short term contract work. Good luck in the search for a new job worthy of your talents.

In the meantime this is a great time to try and explore the area around you for good naturist friendly locations so grab a map (OS getamap is a good place to start) and enjoy the exploration.

Have fun,

Ian.

The Pub Near Swarkestone is the John Thompson and still brews its own beer. Its actually at Ingleby. The pub at Swarkestone is the Crew and Harper.

Incidently, at the far end of the John Thompson is some steps down to the river. You have to cross a field first. I used to fish here when controlled by Derby Angling. It was one very hot day, when catching no fish, that I had my first skinny dip.

The river has declined now so not so many fishermen but there is public footpaths. I still fish further along at a place known locally as Anchor Church (old hermits caves) but obviously i'm not going to worry about seeing naturalists.

Look out though, fishing has changed on the river, due to it being clear, so anglers wear camo gear and stalk along the bank. Sometimes you dont see them till your right on them. Or, as on one occasion, when I was stalking, I came across one young lady who had no warning and no time to put her clothes on. This is the only time I have seen another naturalist in the countryside.

Just watch out for my barbed hooks!!!

I stand erected corrected  :-[ . I left Loughborough in 1980, so some of my memories may be a little hazy by now...
