Well I finally did it – went to my first ever naturist event.  The weekly meet at my local swim.  (Spectrum)

No big time panic attacks from me or folks recoiling in horror at the lumbering monstrosity that has become my body over the years.

It was a bit like going to a job interview or date, but with an extremely large interview panel (around 40 or 50 there).  The big difference of course was that I knew before I went that I had things in common with these folks.

I was soon put at ease though as everyone was friendly.  Plus I met someone with whom I seem to have things in common; he like myself is reluctant to venture out-doors due to sunburn.

I guess I must have done okay though as the committee member who met me said I could come back again.    (Coffee and choccy biccies, plus the promise of pizza next time)?  Sounds like my kind of place.  Will be back soon; I guess though as no-one mentioned my red band that Davie and his fellow NCer's were not present but I am sure we will meet up eventually.

The only question I have is : Why did I take so long to take this first step?

If you are wrapped up in yourself, then you are overdressed!

I am quite open to meeting other folks at organised nude venues that are within my reach financially and socially.

Oh yes I was!  Sorry didn't notice anyone with a red band on. What was nice was hearing a comment from the membership sec. who at one point in the evening made sure the new member (I guess it was you) where not left on your own. If it was you, you were happily chatting away. Welcome to a new experience.

The only question I have is : Why did I take so long to take this first step?

I asked that same question about myself too!!

Well done. For some of us it's nerve racking, for others it seems easy, so well done. I still think the red band for NC members is agood idea but I never see any at any venues I seem to go to either.

Yep that would have been me Davie,, very possible that I didn't recognise you without the sun-hat.  😉  But then again I was surrounded with lots of folks who I had not seen before.  Actually I went in for a bit of overkill: I was wearing 2 red bands (one with the locker key plus my virgin active wrist band.

Hope to be down next week (football permitting - if the team I follow manage to wrap up the result within the 90 minutes play.  The cup ties they have been involved in up to now (around 10 over 2 seasons) have all gone to overtime and penalties apart from one.

What amazed me was the change in the social atmosphere caused by the lack of 2 or 3 pieces of cloth.  I have been a member at 2 very social textile gyms; and it took a long time to generate that level of camaraderie.

While on the way home I thought that it would be very nice to have access to somewhere like the Virgin Active gym at Solihull.  It has 2x Adult swimming pools (one indoor and the other outdoor) plus a kids pool.  Two saunas one indoor (electric) and one outdoor (with coals), plus a steam room.
And leaving the best bit till last a jacuzzi area about the same size as the Northfield bath, also has an outdoor jacuzzi.

The downside though is that it is already open from around 6am to 10pm which does not leave much scope for hiring it. Also it is inaccessible by public transport apart from during business hours Monday to Friday.

Melbourne:  Despite the way my post read things didn't run entirely smoothly; I did have a crisis, I intended to make the visit a week earlier; but bottled it by not phoning the membership secretary.    Also what probably helped was that I was well overdue with stepping up.  I have been driving myself crazy with solitary naturism for some time now.

You have got that right Glenvum,  Saturday  nights just can't come around fast enough at the moment.  It has got me thinking:  Just who of the eighty odd folks I work with are the other naturists.  I think I had one sussed out, but before she left I was unable to progress the subject.  She started it off with comments such as "imagine if someone walked naked through the office!"

The trouble is in an office environment with all sorts of policies in place, plus the fact that she has a partner all sorts of problems beckon if you carry on a conversation like that.

Well done, it feels just as nice every time you do it. And rather less nerve-wracking over time too!

Regarding the conversations with colleagues, I knew a man at university who once talked about going on holiday with a female cousin, who was an 'avid naturist' and dragged him off to a nude beach in France. It kept the pub table entertained for a minute or two, but I carried on talking to him about it and pretty quickly worked out that there was no cousin involved...

It was just a clever and harmless way to gauge people's attitudes towards naturism. It was only a bit awkward when he found himself talking to another real naturist, and had to drop the pretence!

🙂  That reminds me of someone I know who occasionally "gets talking to someone (nameless) in the bar at sports events or "hears" someone making a comment; when he is away from our group.  I suspect that as he is a little timid to voice his opinions (understandably, as one of our number rips into people if they say something he disagrees with) that they are his own opinions that he is offering.

Yes, at least I now know what to look for (hadn't heard about the BN wrist bands untill last week, then noticed one at the swim on Saturday).  I am not sure it would acheive much though as I do not think it a good idea to "out" myself at work; with my boss being a rabid textile.

Kevster:  I had a look at your profile, If you are interested in getting into social nudity I can reccomend swim nights.  Although I only have experince of one venue, the folks there have been very welocoming and I was surprised at how easy it was being naked around other folks (particularly the ladies).  I had had lots of experience of being naked with blokes at gym locker rooms previously so knew I would be okay with them.

The BN wrist bands are orange, I find if you wear them with other CHARITY bands fellow work colleges don't notice what it says, and I have never seen another orange band at my work (for charities) so I would be able to spot another BN member. The idea that another member came up with for the NC members of a red rubber band like those that the post office use on the right wrist is quite a good idea. Again people at work would probably just think a post office band and you have just picked it up.

I'm yet to take the plunge and be naked in front of other people as I'm not confident enough.  However, reading tales such as this is starting to make me think that I ought to bite the bullet.

I'm so glad for you that you took the plunge (literally) and went to your first event.  Other than my house and back garden, my outdoor nakedness thus far has been confined to a quick 10 minutes here and there for fear of 'getting caught'.  My local council frowns heavily on naturists on the local beach and in the local woods and this is always in the back of my mind when I'm out and about.

If there's only one person out of many that do it, I'll be the one to get in trouble for it !!

I've been looking through the lists of naturist clubs in and around my area and I'm in the middle of quite a few.  I actually found that there is a naturist campsite within 10 miles of where I live.  However, Mrs B is unlikely to be joining me so I'll be classed as a single male which could go against me 🙁

I hope you enjoy many more such events
