What happened to summer?

On the off-chance the weather improves briefly before winter descends once again, can anyone recommend a good walk in the Chilterns, or around South Bucks? Preferably the sort of place you can go on a weekday, and have little chance of bumping into someone.  Oh, and the sort of walk where one is not likely the get lost and wind up walking into the back of a village somewhere and frightening the locals...

Replying to my own question... Does anyone have an opinion on the walks listed here in terms of suitability?

I'll probably do a few of them clothed one weekend to see for myself but happy to get suggestions.

APG, we fear that you might be on a hiding to nothing. When we lived in High Wycombe, we only found one short (about a mile and a half) walk in an old, green sunken road which was suitable for naturist wandering. It starts at 51.668324 -0.740945 and ends at 51.663581 -0.749668. You can't actually see it on Google Earth as it's covered in trees. The woods each side are fairly private as well.
Nearly all of the rest of the paths in the Chilterns seemed to be swarming with London "commuters" who were looking for the "Country-side". Warning - this was back in the late 90's.

Well I'd hope to avoid the London crowd by going on a weekday...

Two options, either investigate a possible walk and try it clothed first, becoming aware of where you encounter anyone, or check out Singles Outdoor Club, I believe that they have a walk in July in the High Wycombe area.
Weekdays are always the better option, as you have indicated.

The SOC have a number of routes they use in the Chilterns and Thames Valley. Of the top of my head I can think of Maidensgrove nr Henley-on-Thames, Missenden, Goring (Thames Valley), Lewknor (M40 J5). There are certainly others too.

However, the SOC do not publish their routes, if you want to know where they go you need to do the walk with them, though this is hardly a chore as I have always found it to be a day well spent.

I have about 40 or 50 walks I've done naked in the area but you can never be sure that you have the place to yourself so be prepared either to cover up respectfully (and in a relaxed fashion - no need to raise support any assumptions that you are doing something wrong) or to brazen it out.

Have fun,

Ian.

Well, I was thinking either a well-positioned messenger bag, which I'll be carrying, if someone appeared suddenly, and obviously shorts if there's plenty of time.

Thanks for the info, anyway.

I use a messenger bag and a wrap skirt (call it a kilt if it saves embarrassment) this has the merit that I can put it on or remove it without breaking stride. It is a similar tone to my skin and from a distance a glance looks naked even when dressed but as I get closer their mistake becomes apparent. Using this knowledge and with a little practice it is possible to put this on while in sight of another walker without being seen to be dressing (obviously not while standing right next to them).

A friendly dog is also a useful ally, he diverts others attention and also tells me when others are around giving me a little extra time to melt away or cover up.

Have fun,

Ian.

Didn't think of that. Was looking for shorts with some sort of side-opening fastening. Velcro would be good. But impossible to find (annoyingly).

Had my first naked walk today, by the way.  Just less than a mile, walking through a Common not far from my home which is surrounded by trees, and as deserted of other walkers as I thought it was. Not long enough, but a good start...

Second walk today. Partly in the rain (thank goodness it was humid).  Here's a pic -- please excuse the blurring of my face (not quite comfortable enough to post a pic with my face in it).

Sometimes walking in the rain can be really pleasant.

Thanks for the pic, don't worry about being bashful; we all have our own levels of comfort and our own reasons for them. Looks like your pictures suffer the same problem I often have; sloping horizons. I have got into the habit of framing slightly large so that I can rotate and crop pictures later to get things straight.

Have fun,

Ian.
