Thanks for the tip Scorpion about the beach near the MV1. is it safe for swimming? I noticed further along the Dunes beach there were mostly red flags up meaning one shouldnt swim at them.

We love to swim so would be mostly interested in beaches where the water is safe.
thanks!

It is worth remembering that surfers only go out when the waves are high enough to require red flags.

hi,
I think it would depend how windy it is but certainly when I was there it was breezy but the waves were only a couple of feet high and I found it ok to swim. That part of the beach has an unmanned lifeguard station and it was a yellow flag on my visit. On another day south of the Riu Hotels it was green flags all the way.
Cheers

Is there a requirement for a hire car when staying in corralejo, to get to most of the beach areas/dunes away from the main textile areas?

Or are most of the beaches within easy reach for walking,if not are there easy bus routes to take instead of hire car?

Love the skin your in!!

Hi Dave, it is easy enough to get a bus from Corralejo to the main dunes area south of the two Riu Hotels. From near the centre of Corralejo take the number 6 to Puerto del Rosario and ask for/get off at Los Hoteles - then you can just head to the beach and walk south to the naturist areas. Walking from the Eastern edge of Corralejo would take about 20-25 minutes to the hotels.
Similarly if you want to go to the Cotillo lagoons take the number 8. Some prefer to take the bus if they plan to enjoy a drink or two at their destination and the fares are cheap. If you don't plan on venturing too far from Corrajelo during your entire stay then a hire car may not be cost effective, but great if you want to explore the island a bit more and don't want to be restricted to the bus timetables especially if you miss a bus and have to wait another hour for the next one.

Buses to Los Hoteles are half-hourly except at lunchtime, on Sundays and in the evening.
Buses to El Cotillo are hourly.
Be aware that the bus timetables quote only the time the bus is supposed to start out. All other times depend on the traffic, the time spent stopping for passengers and (of course) the driver. Even the locals have been known to get it wrong.
The best start to access the full bus timetables is here. Somewhere on the bus company's site is a map of all the bus routes but I can't be bothered to find it at the moment.
After our first visit to Fuerte in 1992 we have not bothered with a hire car - I enjoy my beer and wine too much and the local police are alleged to derive half their income from breathalyser checks which are stricter than the UK.

We are off to Corralejo again next week(16th) car is booked so we will be travelling around the island on our 2 week stay, and sampling the many nude friendly beaches again. If anyone else is going at the same time please give us a shout. It would be nice to meet up with fellow NC members.

be nude be happy

A taxi to Grande Playa (aka Les Hotels) is only around 5 Euros and 5 minutes each way from Corralejo, hardly worth waiting for the bus, El Cotillo is a fantastic beach and well worth the bus ride which is enjoyable in it's own right
