Does anyone know if beach at Orfordness in Suffolk is naturist friendly
BB,
The nearest beach to Orford Ness is Corton, see here:

I've also moved this thread to "Beaches UK"

Gordon, thanks for the info on Corton,I was under the impression that Corton had been closed by the local authority,I had heard rumours of naturists using Orfordness ,

Why go go on an expedition to find out? Let us know what you find.
Play nice...... Play Naked!
I can confirm that Corton is still used by naturists, I was there for a couple of hours today and there were plenty of couples and a few single men.
Corton closure was successfully challenged by BN a couple of years ago. 🙂

I thought that it ended up that Corton lost it's "official" status but Suffolk Council somehow messed up the wording of the bylaw and ended up allowing naturism on all Suffolk beaches, something like that, happy to be corrected.
Councillor Ken Sale, Waveney’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment said:
“The Council made a decision to remove the special designation for Corton Beach and it is no longer a stretch for the express use of naturists. However naturism itself is not illegal on any beach and it is now for all our communities to behave appropriately and with respect for others.”

It is very hard to describe the inner enjoyment of being naked .

If people like Ken Sale were better represented in all arms of government and, more especially, in the various police forces, then our battle for universal tolerance would be all but won!

but you may well be arrested by the local plod anyway on some other charge (indecent exposure? public disorder?), if some up-tight "how-dare-they" type complains they have seen a naked person on the beach.
Ted.
Legal position
Suffolk police have issued guidance to their officers following the de-designation.
"You can go on any beach and naturism is not illegal," said Inspector Sarsfield Donohue at Lowestoft.
"However, any behaviour which is deemed to be exhibitionist or offensive would be dealt with.
"Any form of overt sexual behaviour is the easiest way of explaining it.
"A naturist walking down a beach to go for a swim is not in itself exhibitionism.
"On a vast, empty stretch of beach, if a naturist chooses to sit down in very close proximity to a non-naturist, that could be seen as exhibitionism.
"It's a common sense approach.
"Some people may find naturism difficult to deal with, but we're asking all sides to respect each other."
For example, while under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, it's a crime to expose the genitals with the intention to cause alarm or distress, any abusive or threatening behaviour directed towards naturists would fall under the Public Order Act 1986.
