Andy T, regarding Perranporth, check before you go out nude on the beach. There is a nudist area at the top but MOD have closed it down due to gay cruising and sexual activities in the dunes. Last I heard it was overturned and available for use by nudists again but the last thing you want is the army coming down on you 🙂

You may get a visit from the lifeguard on their quad bike but they are fine with naturism. The dunes are out of bounds apart from use for access which is on a 'Permissive Path' along the top of the dunes and OUTSIDE the fenced part of the MoD land. ou can also access along the beach from Perranporth but this is not possible at high tide.

We've been to Bault Beach too. We were staying at the camp site about a half mile away. The weather wasn't too good so I had just a quick swim, more to tick it off my list rather than for fun. Saw nobody else nude.

Because of the terrain, Cornwall is one of the few places in England where you can "just do it", provided you are reasonably discreet. After all, anyone who is "outraged" will have to wait quite a while for the police to arrive, assuming they are sufficiently motivated and have enough in their budget to scramble the helicopter! In many places, even contacting the police (by mobile) would be a challenge.

Once, somewhere a short drive away from St Ives (I forget exactly where), in the middle of a long (clothed) walk on a warm day, I decided to swim. The cove, although quite a way from "civilisation", was not tiny or particularly secluded and there were several people there - all textiles, as far as I could tell. I just went to the far side, stripped behind a rock and entered the sea, a short distance away. Having swum, I reversed the process. Nobody batted an eyelid; even if they did see me going in and out they obviously must have regarded the sight as unremarkable.

If we are to get to the point of public acceptance of nudity already reached - at least on beaches - in the more enlightened countries of Europe, we must be brave enough to practise what we preach - that nakedness is not abnormal and is the most appropriate dress code in such situations - whenever a reasonable opportunity arises, without being paranoid about what state of undress is "allowed", or not, and where.

You'll often see European visitors on any Cornish beach treating is as a naturist beach.

I agree with Fairweathersailor that Cornwall is certainly a place where one can go naked in many places, both quiet coves and remote sandunes which I like to do when the weather permits (which isn't often)!  I would like to point out to him that unless he can tell me when Cornwall joined England, we regard ourselves as Cornish not English meur ras!

Sorry, Dee! We intend to move further west fairly soon. If we get that far, and I get another boat, I'll buy a proper black and white flag for it. Wouldn't qualify for a Cornish passport for myself, though  🙁

Vault beach, near Gorran Haven, is well worth a visit. A great, relaxing place to wind a way a few hours!

Yes, Vault is the beach I normally end up going to.  As normal its the far end that is for the nudists and boy what a climb back to the car park!

Have you tried Downderry Dee? Not the pebble beach near the village but right down the other end - only accessible at low tide or via a cliff path. Similar sought of jaunt, going down is fairly easy if your well balanced but the walk back up take the breath out of you.

Downderry is our local. We love it as it seems to be mostly locals that use it, and the only textiles you see are locals who have lived with it for near on a hundred years so they don't give a monkeys.

If anyone every wants the full details on how to get to it please feel free to ask... There is a danger of getting cut off at high tide if you go to it via the villages pebble beach at low tide, so knowing where the cliff paths are a good idea.

Hi, yes have been there once and had to wait for the tide for awhile.  lovely sand I agree but again a bit of a hike.  I know it's a long way from you but there is a lovly stretch of sand on the St. Ives side of the Hayle estery down and over a golf course which looks lovely.
