I have five days in Barcelona at the end of May. Is there anywhere I should be trying out from a naturist point of view? A beach would be ideal. We're on a budget break. 🙂

we have never tried this one, but it is in our book. Playa Mar Bella is by the Mar Bella Sports complex in the city. It lies 2-3 km north of the Christopher Columbus statue. the Playa La Mar Bella is only 370 metres long and the naturist legal area is 250m long...have fun!!!

Yes we were on that beach a couple of years ago.  It is beside the long promenade so passers by can see all the naturists.  We were there in March.  it was strange to be amongst like minded people sans cossies but on the textile stretches on either side nobody was down to Swimsuits or Bikinis - they were all fully dressed! Strange!

There are also naturist swimming sessions at the Olympic Pool on Mont Juic but not sure when, but you could ask at the TIC.

I am told that naturist sessions at all Barcelona Pools has been banned by the Mayor. The INF World Gala has had to be cancelled (after appeal) and is looking for an alternative (not in Spain).
An official challenge is being prepared.
Note that ruling Catalonian Politicians are known to be extremely anti nudity and are believed to be considering making the liberal Spanish laws on nudity an independence issue!

I suppose this backlash was to be expected after some people interpreted the right to be nude very strictly and started walking naked in the streets of Barcelona. This behaviour has nothing to do with naturism but leads once again to a petty minded politicians banning naturism.

If you check the upto-date website for the Swimming Pools on Mont Juic you will find that naturist swimming does not take place only from June to September.  As a resident of Catalonia I know that nudism has been banned in the streets of Barcelona but there are 2 naturist beaches to use.
I also know that the Catalan authorities are making a number of laws that will eventually hit their tourist trade but this is a Catalan characteristic, being unable to see beyond the end of their nose.  The rural Catalans are a dour people many of whom want their independance but it will not happen as in the cities they are more worldwise and realise that they cannot survive without Spain.

Many thanks for your replies everyone. I think we are going to try the La Mar beach as it will be fairly near us and seems to be a good bet. As I'm not going until late May I will keep researching and checking back. Happy to accept any other suggestions that come in. 🙂

I visited the nudist beach in Barcelona a few years ago - part of it is shielded from the promenade and part not. The waves are fairly rough there so you need to be a confident swimmer if you are going to swim. Have a lovely time...
