Hi all, Can anyone or does anyone in the east sussex area suggest a place to get my camera looked at or any NC members do such repairs. Cheers John
I suggest it depends on what type of camera you have as to whether or not its worth repairing. The re-opened Jessops chain might help as might the Calumet camera chain but they are more in the high-end camera business. Try googleing too

East Sussex, must be Park Cameras they are quite substantial. Google for their Burgess Hill branch. You will not find anybody bigger and more knowledgeable in E Sussex

Cheers one and all for advise. Will take a look at places suggested and take things from their. Thanks again. John
make sure you get a price for any work before you commit... it gets very expensive very fast. last lens I had done cost nearly £300 for a clean & service
I can’t think of anywhere in Sussex apart from DPM and the Clock Tower shop in Brighton. It looks like DPM has gone though http://www.dpm-images.co.uk and I’m not sure if the clock Tower shop is still there either http://www.clocktowercameras.co.uk . Maybe you could find somewhere nearby on this list and phone ahead?: http://www.ukcamera.com/towns/southeas.htm
I’ve had a camera repair done here before http://www.cameraclinic.co.uk/camerarepair.asp.htm
It’s in London, near Oxford Street, but maybe of use to you anyway?
I’ve also been direct to Canon before

It looks like you could do a similar thing for other manufacturers too:
Nikon

Pentax

Olympus

According to my Dad, who knows about such things, many people use an INSURED courier service these days.
For example:
http://www.avcenter.co.uk
http://www.camerarepairservice.co.uk
http://www.digislrspecialist.co.uk
http://www.youcamfix.co.uk
http://www.camserve.co.uk
…which probably explains the demise of Jessops.
Many thanks for all the info Katya, will check it all out and see whos around still.
Def quotation first Mike, just to see what they think is wrong and then decide if its worth a full repair.
The last couple of times I've broken cameras it has been significantly cheaper to replace them through eBay than it was to repair them.
I did fix one myself by buying a broken one on eBay and combining the good parts from that with my camera to produce one working one. Total cost: less than a tenner.
Have fun,
Ian.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
