The worst news ever. Just been announced that the naturist section of Holkham beach is to be closed, that is no more naturism there.  🙁

The blame is placed on unlawful behaviour there. The behaviour of a few etc etc.

As I have posted before, we need to establish with authorities (everywhere) that the reporting of inappropriate behaviour does not result in punishment for Naturism! 
We can be the solution not the (perceived) problem.
The best action YOU can take is to join BN and support the challenge to this.

Holkham is not local to me but I've enjoyed the few visits I've made there. I'm sorry to hear this bad news, and annoyed that the behaviour of other visitors have caused the closure of one of the far too few naturist beaches in the UK.

I know how I'd feel if my local naturist beaches were being closed for that reason, not good.

If there's anything, besides the BN campaign, that naturists elsewhere can do to help fight this closure let us know here.

This is NOT just a Holkham/Norfolk issue.
It could easily apply to ANY Naturist Beach.
It has already happened at Ainsdale, near Southport.
We did not stand up and be counted on that one and its still closed 10 years later.
And there are NO Naturist beaches on the west coast north of Dyffryn (and don't assume that's safe either)
We need to be organised and joining and backing BN is the only way we will win!

Though living in Hertfordshire I come from Norfolk and this has been a naturist beach since time immemorial. I find it extremely sad that a ban on naturism which curtails the activities of thousands of innocent naturists throughout the year is the preferred means to deal with a problem caused by a small minority.

We feel that it is a real shame that they haven't tackled the issue of moving people on who are naked in the dunes and asking them to either leave of go down onto the beach, after all there are still going to be people who aren't aware or choose to ignore so they will have to have patrol the dunes/beach anyway to stop.

We were at Dyffryn last year with the kids. An innocuous looking couple possibly in their forties were already sunbathing on the beach when we arrived. About an hour had passed when they started to kiss and cuddle. I thought nothing of it as my husband and I sometimes cuddle on the beach.  When it became fairly obvious that the guy was getting aroused they both got up and headed for the dunes, he was definitely sporting a semi.  They returned about twenty minutes later. Now I can't say for sure that they had sex in the dunes but I think it's a fair assumption.

Now on first impressions this couple didn't look like anything other than genuine naturists which is one of the problems that we face. Already being naked there was no conspicuous undressing as there would have been on a textile beach. No one including me challenged their behaviour although it was obvious that other people were aware of them as I heard one woman say to her partner that she knew what they were off to do.

Yes there are signs that have been in place a number of years forbidding naturism from the dunes....or at least that was my interpretation of them. From what I can see the Wardens patrolling the beach seem to simply make sure no one is nude in the area at the back of the dunes.
To allow nude sunbathing only on the high tide beach area in front of the dunes up to the low tide mark and strictly enforcing no nudity in all the dunes would be the sensible way to go.

As with many things the problem is with the enforcement of regulations, and anyone who's been to Holkham knows how vast that area is. The eventual consequence of the misbehaviour of a few could be a ban on naturism in general on the beaches, as public areas, which is like banning football because of  the behaviour of a few drunken idiots. A more intelligent, less reactionary solution must be found or there will be no beaches in Britain for genuine naturists to enjoy.

Such measures will of course underline us all as being, in the wider public mind, nothing more than a promiscuous bunch of exhibitionists, and that's far more regrettable than losing a few acres of sand.

Typical - the few spoiling it for the many. Locally thedelephorpe beach and if u google it comes up with several blogs of swingers and guys asking people if they can join in and performing various activities in public view. Its said that so many people including the authorities can't separte nudity from sex, and worse that the few don't realise that they are performinh leuid acts that are against the law and hence affecting everyone else

I'm still somewhat in a state of shock that this is actually happening (although I had heard it rumoured).

Personally, I haven't been to Holkham for several years (due to now living on the other side of the country), but it will always hold a special place in my heart as the first naturist beach I visited.

I won't repeat what everyone else has said, but it's another classic example of the authorities not tackling the true cause of the problem.  I suspect the doggers will still continue to use the beach and meanwhile the genuine naturists are deprived on one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK.

The beach is owned by the Crown. So what prevents naturism on the beach itself??
If we continue naturism but only on the beach, who is going to enforce a no nudity rule?

Consider the case at Corton. The beach is no longer an official naturists beach but as many naturists enjoy nudity there now as before. Apparently there is no local by law in place preventing nudity so what makes Holkham different?
