Sounds really good. We haven't been abroad yet - due to my wifes fear of flying. She is trying to pluck up courage though, so we are ever hopeful. We now have the passport forms, so are one step nearer. Formentera sounds the ideal place and we will look into it further. We would love the nude 24/7, it sounds idyllic. We have heard that Portugal is a really nice place too and are  hoping to find some good naturists holiday there.

I definitely second the statements about Formentera being a perfect place if you like spending your holidays nude for much of it.

I've been there a few times and done similar things, the walk across to Es Palmador is fun. Hiring somewhere to stay near to a naturist beach there is definitely a great way to be able to spend your time nude 24/7 if you like this idea.

We did this one time with that exact idea of not wearing a stitch between the 6 of us for several days, doing a decent shop as soon as we arrived and then spending 4 days naked 24/7, we had a minutes walk to the beach and were very pleased to see neighbours walking there nude on our first morning, so we knew we were amongst like minded people. I don't recall seeing any  neighbours wearing anything during the daytime there. If you wanted to spend a week naked it would be easily achieved with a bit of pre-planning, but we did want to see other parts of the island and eat out.

Most of the beaches away from the built up areas are fine to be naked on and don't take too long to get too, (some may be 100% nudists, others a happy mix of nude and textiles) due to the island being quite small. Its fairly flat and many people cycle around it.

I spoke to a regular and they said from mid July until early September textiles have taken over.
Es Pujols was the best beach with 60/40 naked.
2nd week was back to normal mostly naked.

I'd love to go back there some time so thanks for the heads up about peak textile time there. It wouldn't stop me being nude as long as its allowed, but its nicer to have other naturists around too.

I think it was the end of June a few years ago when we made a trip there. There were lots of Italian students on holiday there, many were textiles, but they didn't seem to care if we were naked in their midst should they decide to be on the beach we'd gone to that day, many were very friendly and some enjoyed trying to outdo each other in speaking English to us.

I made my first trip to Formentera in May and loved it. The only beaches where there weren't naked people were Es Pujols and the stretch in front of the Maryland hotel. I suspect Philipnjw may mean Platja des Canyers just north of the main Es Pujols beach which I would agree is great. The Calo des Morts is especially tranquil with plenty of swimming space (although seaweed on the beach was a problem when I was there). The Calo des Morts also seems to be the place single naturists seem most comfortable going. There's a great stretch at the very other end of Migjorn where nearly all are naked and the sea is much calmer than than the middle stretch. The other great spot was the top bit Levant which was 100% naked for adults although a couple of kids were wearing costumes.

Every guide book I read warned against wading over to Espalmador as the currents are dangerous and several people have died doing it. So don't do it!

If your main holiday criteria is having a variety of different (nude) beaches to visit, Formentera will take some beating.

I would expect the beach referred to north of Es Pujols is Levante.

The whole peninsular that Levante is part of is a great place for naturism. Away from the restaurants you can be naked on all of the beaches, walking nude along all of it from one beach to another, moving across to the other side should the wind direction change. The water is very clear and with the white sand visibility when snorkeling is often really good.

Have to agree with this.
I once saw a huge fish when snorkelling in rough water. It was bass shaped but a rusty red colour, almost 3 foot long. It was gorging on sandeels stirred up by the surf. A very special experience.  🙂
Formentera is a great place for a first Naturist holiday, especially good if you have an undecided partner. The only problem seems to be the main season when it gets invaded by textiles. However, it has also become extremely pricey as well. Cost being the only reason we have not returned yet.

If you don't mind going half-board then Riu La Mola. You save the slight extra cost by not having to find a restaurant in the evening. If you are someone who needs to eat out to properly understand somewhere then Es Pujols is probably the best base for you. There is also a company called Astbury who specialise in Formentera who are a good idea if you want to self-cater. They have properties all over the island.

We have been twice to Formentera, in June. The first time in 1997. We stayed in La Savina, and the beach is a 10 minute walk. The first time was better, as the beach was mostly naturist, The second time in 2007, was full of Italians, all textile. We stuck to the end of the beach which was nearly all naturist.

Astbury have  self catering bungalows on the beach at mijorn (prob spelt wrong). They are called. Talya bungalows. They were a bit basic when we last went there. But I think they have all been referbished, and gone up market.

To be honest we stopped going to Formentera because Astbury have the monopoly on self
catering on the island, and they are very expensive.

Also like other posters have said, during the
Peak months Italians are in the majority and they are are not known to be great naturists , we like to be around other naturists on the beach.

We stayed at Talaya last year, for 10 days in September.  That was our second time there after a couple of years absence.  It is expensive (well most self-catering places on the island seems to be, but this one more so than many) but it was very nice.  Something new since we last visited is fresh butter,  jam and milk available in your fridge each day and a delivery of croissants and rolls to each apartment each morning.  That was very welcome in a place which is some minutes walk or bike ride from the shops or the local cafes.

I enjoyed the beach next to Talaya - note that it is next to but not quite in front of Talaya.  The sea front directly next to the bungalows is a bit rocky.  It suited us (sorry!) that I could be naked on the beach and my wife didn't need to feel awkward not being so.  Actually we did plonk ourselves down at the naturist section (just beyond Playa Real restaurant) although nobody batted an eyelid when I, or other visitors, stayed naked on the sunbeds in front of the restaurant.

It was good also to be just down the road from the Ca Mari Hotel - it meant that shopping and hire of kayaks and the like was not far, and it saved us having to book taxis to get to and from Talaya - the local bus stops at the hotel at Ca Mari. 

We'd go there again - in fact we probably will next year!
