Hi
Does any other single person have difficulty in gaining membership to clubs?
Have applied but they say they have no spaces yet.
Said couple on next day and could have enrolled!!

Hi Think you will find that most clubs try to maintain a balance between couples and singles of either sex.
With sometimes a large demand  by singles that could easily outnumber couples they may have to introduce a waiting list for singles.

You may have noticed that single members on this forum outnumber couples by about 10:1.

isn't that being deceiving if you say you are a couple when in actual fast you are a single male?  It is the way clubs in the UK are unfortunately, single males are not as welcome as couples or single females.

In answer to the question though - Yes.  When my wife passed away, the club we had belonged to for a number of years declined my renewal as i was then classed as a single male.  Needless to say, i have never been back since nor will I

I’m wondering why you applied for membership to a club as a single. As you’re a couple, and both Mr and Mrs naked60 are into naturism (judging by the ‘Couple-both post’ in your profile), surely it’s better to apply for membership to a club as a couple?

From what I’ve seen, it seems membership costs for a couple are the same as those for a single; i.e. the cost for each person in a couple is half that for a single person. At Suntreckers, for example, 'Memberships are issued per unit (usually a single person, family or couple living at the same address)'.

... When my wife passed away, the club we had belonged to for a number of years declined my renewal as i was then classed as a single male.  Needless to say, i have never been back since nor will I

That's awful! So much for naturists being friendly folk. At the time when you probably needed your friends most they weren't there for you.  I’d think they could have shown some compassion, especially as they’d known you for years. 🙁

Glad to see that (judging by your other posts) you have come through that experience okay. Bless  🙂

Fortunately this does not happen at all clubs so we should not "Tar them all with the same brush"

I have known a number of occasions where the remaining partner has continued as a member of the club, sometimes they are not able to if only one of them used to drive.
At other times they decided to leave as were are so many reminders of happy memories they had shared together.

I suggest you enter correct information before going any further!

Katya stated:

If that is the case, why does your Introduction state:

I am semi-retired  divorced male with two teenagers.

Our club has recently had lots of recent applications for membership, one problem is that we've found that single guys tend not to be honest about their marital status! We've had appllications from 'true' singles, from those who say they are single but aren't (known to one other member!) and those who have wives at home who are not 'into naturism' and somewhere decisions have to be made about who is most likely to fit in.  Most clubs have a ratio of singles to couples - and so they may wish to recruit more members but if more 'single' guys were to become members then that ratio would be exceeded.  However  if a couple came along the following day they would probably be accepted straight away.

This weekend we've had an Open day and two more couples have joined - and this means that we can possibly accept another single - out of the two who came along - but this means that one will have to wait until the ratio changes again.  Which would you accept - the young widower, already a member of BN and a local swim,  or the guy who has a partner who isn't yet into naturism?

If you put yourself in the shoes of the couples, would you actually want to be a member of a club where couples are outnumbered by singles in a ratio of 10:1 as is apparently the case with Naturist Corner and the naturist community in general.  This is why most clubs try to maintain a balance.

The thing I find difficult to understand is that BN events like Nudefest and Alton Towers, which have no quota on singles, seem to get along quite well. Presumably, as one of the few places that welcome all comers, there would be a huge bias towards the single and yet it's nowhere near the 10:1 that you suggest.

If a club were to just accept anyone who was genuine and acceptable on trial membership, would they really be overrun with singles? Has it happened?

Cheers

Again, spoken from experience, yes they probably would be.  Our last Open Days have been heavily outnumbered with singles!  We've just accepted two couples and one single as new members.

Are there any 'Single guys only' naturist clubs?  It would solve the problems you perceive about membership of clubs who want to maintain a balance but how would you singles feel about a male only club.

We understand it was one of the reasons why MadNat failed.  From what we have been told, as the number of single males increased, the couples attending decreased and then the single males stopped attending!

If the couples continued to attend, instead of adopting the attitude that we won't attend until the balance improves, it would not be a problem.  In fact they make the problem worse for themselves and other couples.

However, we know from our own experience that when any new couple attend and find that they are vastly outnumbered, they don't bother returning.

I can't see there being too many takers for a single male only naturist club and if there was one I certainly would not wish to join.  Not because I only wish to be in mixed company, but because i feel it is discriminatory. Single males have a bad enough press among naturists - and yes, before anyone starts shouting SOME deserve it - but I think the genuine naturist who finds himself single, either by choice or as in my case by the passing away of a partner should enjoy the same rights as couples, particularly when, having belonged to a club for a number of years as a couple you are told you are persona non gratia when you try to renew your membership. As I said in a previous post on this topic, I am not a member of a club now, nor will I even attempt to join a club again - not just the one I was a member of, but any other.

Perhaps if clubs did as suggested by Nibs, and allowed a trial membership, some of the prejudices may be dispelled!

It would be interesting to know the experience of other clubs with regard to single males, We have always accepted a proportion of genuine singles, male or female as visitors and members , but do generally find that even when men have been accepted and made welcome they only stay for a couple of years.
Perhaps they meet a lady who is either not interested or they don't tell her where they have been going, or find that mixed naturism is not what they were expecting.
Occasionally their behaviour is not acceptable and have to be asked to leave.

The requirement to provide positive identification, photo driving licence and proof of residency also appears to be a deterrent that does not exist with couples.
