I think you can say William the Conqueror had something to do with it. I had been reading a book about 1066 and as I had been sent down to London for a couple of months I decided to take a week off and go to the site of the battle and have a bit of a holiday as well. I travelled down to Hastings on the Friday evening and visited Battle on the Saturday. Returning to the hotel I looked at a booklet and on the map saw a place called Fairlight Cove. The name intrigued me so I left fairly early the next morning to go there. It was quite a nice walk to the beach. There was a sign near the stairway seeing that there could be naked people there. When I got on the beach there were a couple of nude people there. I stripped down to my swim shorts determined there was no way they were coming off.

I lay on the beach enjoying the warm sun. More and more people arrived and most of them were naked. As you can guess the inevitable happened and much to my surprise I decided to bare all. I then found how pleasurable it was to sunbathe completely naked and within a short time I even went for a walk along the beach and a swim.

The only problem I now have is that living in the north east of England there aren't any official beaches too near. I did like to go down to Holkham but now that option is available.  Such a shame.

I wonder if the book was called "The Third Stone" (a novel of 1066)  It's written by a really good author who happens to be a member of NC - Oh its me! (Sorry about the advertisement)  Peter PW has been trying to get it from a charity shop for the last 12 months but I think it must be such a good read people are reluctant to part with it once they buy it!

Back to the topic.

To be honest it was so long ago I can't even remember what it was called. In fact it may have been written not long after the battle itself  :-[

Fredbare: Thank you for your posting. You have inspired me go back to Fairlight Cove one day, and maybe to try naturism there. I used to go fossil hunting there as a child. It wouldn't be my first naturist experience anywhere, but it would be my first naturist experience there if I did dare try it.

Peter: I've deleted my above post, as per the rules. Yes, it was off topic as it only really related to my distant past experiences of Fairlight Cove, an hence my impressions of the place. My point is in my message above to Fredbare (although I thought reading about how I image myself to be The Keeper, would be less mundane).

No, Katya, I haven't been back to Fairlight for a few years but maybe I'll get back there next summer, weather permitting.

Fredbare, if you think the novel was written shortly after the Battle of Hastings it must be the one that Peter101 is referring to.

Lol Tony I was actually trying in my own misguided way trying to make a joke about how long ago it was since I read it.
