This club, that had been in existence for many years in Beaworthy, was put up for sale after the death of the owner a relative of Ernest Hemingway. Her daughter felt unable to operate the club, and it was offered to the members of the club, and whilst they were endeavouring to arrange finance, another buyer stepped in with an offer far in excess of the sum that was being sought.
A great number of the members of the club I believe migrated to Carbeil club.
The North Devon Club was the first club I went to in 1970, and although a single male was accepted as a member with no discrimination whatsoever, although I stopped using the club when I married a few years later.
I'm afraid my memory for dates thereafter is sketchy, but I shall rack my brains to fill in more information,
Don
We also stayed at North Devon Club , when Kath Hemingway was there. Remember having to wait our turn for the 1 shower in the house !
