Just wondering if anyone has been there? There are a couple of places to stay just off the beach and we quite fancy it.
Just wondered what people's opinions are?

We tried the beach at Leucate, in front of the naturist villages there, in May 2008. At that time of year it was very quiet of course, even though one of the days was hot and sunny. A good sandy beach with plenty of room to walk or sunbathe, or even run as I did!
We didn't stay locally though, we hired a cottage in a town some way away and took the car over the the coast.
We also tried what was listed as an unofficial beach at Bocal del Tech just down the coast a little way, behind a nature reserve, which was very pleasant (pic here).
Cheers,
nib
Port Leucate is very often windy, though.
Ideal with a sailboard.
We used Bocal du Tech last year and found it to be really nice. There was a nicer atmosphere about this beach than just over the other side of the river towards Argeles. Here there were a couple of characters who spent all day walking up and down, in and out of the scrub bushes, but just seemed to be 'eyeing up' everyone. Did not make for a very comfortable experience.
However at Bocal du Tech the beach appeared to be used by different groups of locals who all appeared to know each other giving the place a much better feel.
Car parking is also quite close at hand. Haven't tried Leucate yet though.

The beach of Port Leucate was ranked nr 1 of the "top ten nude beaches in the world" by "The Richest" last May.
That would probably not be my personal choice, but then criteria vary from one person to the other. Too windy for me!

We stayed at Aphrodite maybe 15 years ago and rather liked it. We don't like beaches much (Sand? What's the point?) and found the pool large, quiet and under-used. At that time it was normal to be naked at all times and didn't suffer the nightly freak parade that is Cap d'Agde.
The only downside, as previously mentioned, is the onshore winds which can whip up the sand and deposit it in your apartment, food, belongings and other intimate areas! So we would not go for beachside accommodation.
In fact we liked it so much we are toying with buying an apartment there.
Port Leucate is a couple of hours drive down the autoroute from where we live and we have been there a few times in the last five years. We go to the beach ajoining Oasis naturist village. It's a nice, well-kept beach but it does get fairly crowded at the height of summer. Last time we were there was on a Monday and we were disappointed to find that the restaurant on the beach was closed, as so many establishments are on Mondays in France.
We preferred further up the coast at Gruissan and Serignan, Serignan in particular was easily accessible and connected to a naturist holiday site if you want to stay...not as upmarket as Leucate though. The beach has a long naturist Plage and is family friendly, never gets too crowded.
I discovered this beach about 12 years ago when I saw publicity about a new development called Jardin de Venus. Went to have a look and was most impressed by the lovely sandy beach. I was less impressed with the new development as it wasn't close to the beach.
Then 5 years ago Maryline and I spent a week in one of the villages and fell in love with the area, the facilities and particularly the beach. It is true, sometimes there are strong winds, which is why it is popular with wind and kite surfers, but in the summer strong winds are more rare.
We liked it so much, we bought an apartment in Oasis village next to the beach and we are off there this weekend for 5 days as we see the forecast is bright and sunny, although not exactly hot for January/February.
For information, the naturist beach is accessible to the public and not reserved for the residents. There is public parking just outside the villages with a public access between Aphrodite village and Oasis village and once on the beach, you have access to the restaurants and shops in the villages.
