We have never been but it is not so far from us and seems a shame there is so much messing around with tide heights etc is it possible to somehow mark the area that is naturist - then put up some signs etc

So if I understand this correctly, in effect Naturism will only be tolerated on those parts of the beach that get covered by tides. So the usually dry sandy beach area in front of the dunes is out of bounds unless clothed.

But the estate can't prosecute you for being nude above mean high water, unless they get an injunction or you refuse to leave/dress. If the estate do not permit nudity on their portion of beach, then you effectively become a trespasser.  They can only otherwise sue for damages, and it is difficult to see what damage you might cause simply by being nude.

A strict reading would be that on half the days (nearer to springs), you would need to dress for a period around high tide, or go for a swim, although that would entail undressing above mean high water, unless you want to find your clothes have floated off with the tide..... 🙁

Well, I just hope that folk respect the new rules this year. My fear is that some will still try to go nude in the dunes and that the dunes will still attract the wrong types this year and we may end up back at square one. It is up to the law abiding naturists to protect the use of our lovely beach by reporting any bad behaviour.

i popped up there last week and didn't see anyone on the beach, although to be fair it was quite early and the breeze was a bit strong.
hope to see a few of you all up there this year and i'll keep you all as informed as i can as i'm just down the road

This is the latest news from BN about Holkham:

In early May the Chairman of BN Eastern Region and the BN Campaigns Director met with Natural England and The Holkham Estate. The wording of signs has been agreed. The signed area will be much the same as before with Naturism on the beach however it will continue to be banned in the dunes as it has been for over 25 years. The winter storms did severe damage to the dunes and the entire front row was washed away. Maram grass is starting to appear so given time it will recover but it is very fragile. Also it is important that we distance ourselves from any problems that there might be in the dunes. For both those reasons please keep well away from the dunes and we suggest at least a hundred metres. It is not the place to push boundaries. Please do speak to anybody jeopardising the future of the beach by not acting responsibly but do not put yourself at risk.

We are away with the caravan in Norfolk, and hopefully tomorrow and maybe saturday we shall be at Holkham naturist beach .

Well we got to Holkham, paid our dues at the car park , I asked the car park attendant where was  the naturist beach . Strange reply , "naturalists" aren't allowed anymore , I corrected him about naturists and also it is not illegal , providing we don't go in the dunes , go to the left then ! We set off walking , and walking along the beach we went , and along some more.Yippee ,we spy naked people and unsure where the naturist beach actually starts. We stopped dropped our things , I stripped off and went to talk to a naked guy a little further along . I asked if we were on the naturist beach, "yes and no "he told us as there are no signs at all to say where it starts.However, he had been using the beach for years and told us , we should be ok from here now . Phew , we had finally reached it ! We were well away from the dunes and well away from the sea , on hard sand and now felt safe . We stayed for a couple of hours or more , until the hard sand  finally became too hard ! We also noticed some people in the dunes , but they were clothed ! We never saw anyone in authority to tell those in the dunes , it is forbidden to go there . Maybe there is one rule for clothed people and one rule for naturists when it comes to being in the dunes .Ah well
We were going to return saturday for more nude sunbathing, but we have decided against it for 2 reasons ....1/ It is a long way to walk to the "naturist" beach, and we still didn't know where it was . 2/In order to keep away from the dunes and the possibility of being told NO , you can't sunbathe there, the hard sand is very hard .

Hi, is it possible to cycle from the car park ?

Yes!, go through the gate and in front of you there are three pathways, the board walk goes down to the beach- Holkham Gap, but to the left and right is the Norfolk Coastal Path,turn left and cycle for about a mile past the bird hither on your right and then past the house situated a bit further on your left. About 250 yds further on you will come the a crossing of other path with trees marking the intersection. turn right here into the pine trees,there are some signs saying beach 250 yds ahead, you have cycled parallel to the sea this far from the carpark. Cycle towards the sea and you'll see as you come out of the pines people leave their bikes by the trees. Walk down to the beach turn slightly leftwards and the naturist area of the dunes is in front of you, so continue on down to the beach itself. Martin.
