I'm not near enough to you, but wanted to learn basic Spanish fairly quickly before a short City break in Madrid, nearly 40 years ago now, so I'm very rusty.
I suggest you contact your local college, as they may be able to put you in touch with a tutor who could start you off, even if you cannot join one of their courses before next September.

See if you can find a set of 'Michel Thomas' Basic Spanish language course on Ebay.

They're very very different from other language courses and amazingly they seem to actually work! (did for me anyway).

We have found Duolingo on computer & Android devices because you see the language written, you hear the pronunciation and you get to practice saying the phrases and sentences. You can practice as often as you like and progress through the lessons at your own pace. The website is www.duolingo.com

I know that I'm old enough to be out of date, and that technology has overtaken me, but the 'Ealing' method of language-learning worked for me, and that a simple book will deliver - Spanish was infinitely easier with them than French ever was.

Go for it in the knowledge that you are more able than you you may think you are...
