We are looking to travel through Europe again next summer but this time plan to have a week off to enjoy some sun. We would like to stay in Croatia and relax at a naturist campsite so looking for some suggestions as to where we should head? We will be travelling by motor-bike and camping so luggage / clothes space is limited. What we would like is a camping site with a beach that is fully naturist as opposed to a normal camp site near a naturist beach - does anyone know of any such places? We camp at our club regularly where we do not have to dress for the duration, to do this in the sun would be fantastic  🙂

Can't help with a campsite but do envy you the trip. I did a similar trip in the mid eighties: to Croatia via Switzerland and Austria, back through Hungary and a few days in Vienna. We did the journey back from Vienna to Henley in a day, just clocked up 1000 miles. I don't think my backside would tolerate that long in the saddle any more.

i'm not surprised, the longest day in the saddle for me was 700 miles and i ended up on pain killers for a month afterwards! Got as far as Slovenia this year but had to turn around due to time - really fancy croatia though especially if we can combine it with some sun

When i first read that i thought Poor Horse, then I realised you were talking about motor bikes!  700 miles is still a long way in a saddle though!

We're in Jelsa on the island of Hvar at the moment, the attitude to nudity is so laid back you can get away with it practically anywhere.  There's a naturist campsite at Vrboska just down the road , they have a website. No beach,  it's all rock around here but a beautiful island.  Bring rock pegs and a big hammer  🙂
I'll post a summary of the area on my return.

The Istrian coast is the obvious choice as it is the nearest from here as the crow flies and has the most naturist campsites/resorts, thanks to Heinrich and Gerta who regularly load their car up in the summer from Munich and head down there every year but importantly, when are you going? Peak school holidays? It will be 'busy' then but I suppose with just a tent you will get somewhere. The usual suspects are pretty close to each other from Umag down to Pula, Koversada, Valalta, Solaris, Istra and others, better look at the websites and see what appeals to you most. I have still only visited one, Valalta. The facilities are faultless and it has everything that your little hearts could want for a week's nude slob, even a swim up bar, ye Gods, what decadence, but points to note is that it is not a 24/7 naked sort of place like the Cap maybe is, as it seems the thing to dress for dinner in the restaurants I believe, though al fresco lunches in the grill bars is nekkid, ditto the supermarket and shops on site require clothing, and to be perfectly honest I would not say the sea water and beach areas are the greatest you will get in Croatia either. But if you just want a week's relaxing you will not do too much better. Also, as you have transport, do take at least a half day out to explore the Istrian hinterland, and the hill towns such as Groznjan and Motovun. They are truly breathtaking, and Groznjan, thanks to the artists who have made it a home is a joy to poke around. Get plenty of truffle tasting in on your way around as well. Nowhere in Istria is more than an hour from the coast so it is ridiculously easy to cover in one day. And Rovinj down the road is pretty nice to say the least, in the day or at night. Eat a couple of times there at least.

As for Dalmatia...that depends because naturist campsites besides the one Jonny mentions above, and a couple of others on the islands are much fewer and further between and believe it or not Italy's motorways are supposedly easier for the driver than Croatia's coastal road, so if you were keen on going down there, it might be a better option to go to Ancona and take the ferry across to Split for an easier access(ish). Ignore Dubrovnik. There's no naturist sites around there.

(Greetings Jonny. Cannot wait for your report and photos. We had intended to hire a car to go to Jelsa on our last few days this year, and to revisit Vrboska and Camp Nudist, but the weather intervened. I take it you are staying there rather than Hvar Town? A good choice probably at this time, but I do hope you have managed to get to the town and the Paklenis on your trip as well. Very envious. Ciao.)x

Hi all - thanks for all your feedback its greatly appreciated. I have travelled a lot around central europe but never combined the travel and naturist thing before so i am dying to give it a go. We intend going early June as we did this year stopping off in Poland, Czech Rep etc along the way so will be ready to get naked and soak up the sun by the time we get there. We are off to lake Garda in 2 weeks but i'm not expecting any naturist places in that part of the world.

Thx again for all the advice 🙂

At that time, you will have no problems getting a pitch and Istria is the obvious destination bearing in mind your route.

If you do decide on one camp, you are at perfect liberty to visit any of the others for the day. It's all a lot easier with your own wheels.

If you go on the fish picnic on Thursdays from Valalta, you will bore people about it forever, providing you remember it of course.

Sounds a great trip! No better way to do it than on a motorbike, and it goes hand-in-hand with naturist camping – as you say there's no room for clothes anyway!

Valalta would be a good choice, as would Koversada (I've only been to the former though).

Another option which doesn't seem to get mentioned often is Bunculuka, on the southern tip of Krk (an island, but connected to the mainland by bridge). Bunculuka is a smaller, cosier place, tucked into a little wooded valley, so you get a different kind of atmosphere there and there are lovely places to pitch your tent in the woods. There's good walking along the coast (naked), and it's also walking distance to the nearest town (Baska).

I need to get back there myself, now I think of it!

the trip is sounding more appealing by the minute - the sort of advice and recommendations here are really wetting my appetite so thank you all again for posting your replies. The fish picnic would be right up my street as i'm a bit of a fish eater (when i can get fresh fish from Portsmouth fish market!). I have heard of Krk before but never researched it properly but now i will. I agree the biking/naturist camping is the a good combo especially now we have the packing down to a minimum!

I wish I could report to you about Bunculuka and Krk, but have not made it there yet. I need to get back to the Kvarner Jon in an in depth way! But wherever you choose SOF, you won't go far wrong and the people are lovely.

i have heard the people are good in that part of the world  - overall during my travels i can honestly say most people you meet are decent enough especially if you make the effort to talk to them and try their local food and culture 🙂

The way they phrase certain phrases in English (and we cannot speak Croatian to save our lives) can sound a bit gruff and supermarket workers are marvelous at chucking bags in your general direction. But the genuine generosity and hospitality we've had over the years from most people we have interacted with, not to mention helpfulness, is far beyond any 'service culture' or lip service.
