My wife and I spent a day on Orient Beach when we took a cruise together the year before we got married (a little over 10 years ago now), and we are contemplating a return for our 10th anniversary next year.

Of course, spending a few hours there a decade ago, I have only a general sense of the place. Has anyone been recently and if so, do you have any recommendations on where to stay? My wife isn't quite as enthusiastic about naturism as I am, so we may end up staying at a textile hotel or villa and visiting Orient Beach a few times while we are there (much to my lamentation) instead of booking into naturist accommodation.

Either way I'd appreciate any impressions anyone may have had, should you have been so fortunate as to visit there recently.

Thanks!

Mike

My wife and I have been going to Club Orient St. Martin for quite a few years now and obviously we just love the place.

Orient Bay has wonderful sand, and the sea is always tepid and a joy to swim in. If your wife is not comfortable with naturism, I can understand your reluctance to stay at Club Orient, which is a 24-7 clothes optional experience including the restaurant and bars. In practise, clothes option really means nudity is the norm. However, the accommodation is right on the beach, and you have sun recliners  and parasols reserved for the duration of your stay, fresh beach towels daily, plus a restaurant and shop / boutique there to use.

There are hotels very close to the beach. As to the best time to go, well, with a reluctant wife maybe choose to go at the quieter times, as at the height of the season the beach can get very busy, especially when the cruise ships visit the island and lots of overdressed tourists walk up and down the beach. This can be rather tedious.....

We stayed at Club Orient for a week in January and enjoyed it immensely, The problem about the beach, however, is that there are a great number of tourists (many of them apparently from the cruise ships that visit the island) who walk up and down the beach in their "beach attire" and just gawk. Without them the beach would be first class.

Yes, sadly when my wife and I went on the cruise that included the day excursion to OB, we went with quite a few friends who ended up on the gawking end of the equation I'm sorry to say, while she and I enjoyed the beach the way in which it was intended.

Thanks to you both for sharing your experiences!

Although we've been to Club Orient, we haven't been to this alternative nearby accommodation which offers more privacy but is still clothes-optional - Green Cay Villas.
