Weve been here several times, its a lovely white sand beach with taverna and a real sun trap with plenty of sunbeds/umbrellas for hire if required. The beach is  bit of a trek from the road ( up and over a couple of quite steep hills) but worth the effort. The nearest resort is Koukounaries, a small village with a plethora of restaurants and bars, and plenty to choose from covering all pockets. The island is small with only one major road, and one bus route which sees a bus every 15 minutes covering all the islands town. The island is reached by plane with flights from most of the big british airports, and easy 2 1/2 hours from Gatwick. If there is a drawback its the fact its close to Big Banana beach which is very much a young persons party beach, and after 4pm the music starts and if youre close by it can get very loud. weve enjoyed all our holidays there, and the only reason weve stopped is were now unable to do the walk... if you go, we hope you enjoy as much as we did, and don't ..forget to go to the cinema in Skiathos town, its quite an experience......

We've had a couple of really good holidays in Skiathos, and have booked again for next summer. We choose to go half board with Thompson's, staying half way between little banana and Skiathos town. There is a bus service that runs along the main road linking big banana with Skiathos town, but we choose to rent a motorbike. By using the bike we can avoid most of the hilly walk, but you need to be a confident rider to tackle the sandy tracks. We don't use the taverna much as we have a good breakfast and then make snacks to take to the beach. We always rent a couple of sunbeds and a parasol,  about ten euros a day I think. My wife is not a strong swimmer but she loves the water at little banana because it is so calm, and gin-clear. We park ourselves at the opposite end of the beach to big banana, and have never been disturbed by the music. Last year we took our teenaged daughters and they loved big banana. Of course you wouldn't have caught them dead anywhere near our beach 🙂

I have such happy memories of this beach, glad to hear it is still going strong. Lived for a week on delicious Greek salad for lunch! If staying on Skiathos and you have the time, the neighbouring island of Skopelos is well worth a visit.

I'm off to Skiathos later this week. Looking forward to exploring the island.

not a great deal to see in terms of ruins or relics... but theres lots of small hidden beaches that are fun to find, skiathos town is very lively and a trip to the cinema is a must...
