For me it was an onsen in Japan. I was invited by a friend to visit an onsen where, I was at first bewildered, worried, frightened, terrified, fascinated, and bowled over by so much nudity. It was an experience that has stayed with me through the years and one which I value immensely. I recall the openess of the Japanese people but, also their good manners. The way they handle a small towel is amazing, whilst I made a complete idiot of myself and inevitably dropped the damned thing revealing to all and sundry my terror. How small we seem in the face of terror  Then, garnering courage and adopting a very British stance, with head held high and stiff upper lip I sallied forth and bowed left and right to which my new Japanese friends applauded my aplomb! I was a hit! That was until I missed the last step into the pool and landed head first in the water. Ah well, my aplomb battered, I joined with my new friends - for friends they had become - and sat safely in one place on the pool side chatting to a lady and a gentleman with whom, I have stayed friends for so many years.
