Self timer shots

I find my Canon bridge camera (SX40HS) and my little canon P&S (A570is) ideal for taking selfies, as you can set the timer for up to 30 seconds and tell it to take several shots in one go (up to 10 I think).

This gives you plenty of time to get into position!

My Pentax digital SLR however can only use a 12 second self timer, and then a single shot which doesn't give you much time to get into frame! I do have a wired remote release for my Pentax, but it isn't particularly long length...  Must have a look on the bay of e for a wireless remote!

We use a setting on our camera, that allows it to take photos every few seconds.  That way we don't have to dash in front of it within a few seconds, but just choose the best pics to keep from all the ones it takes.

I have a few cameras, My SLR camera I added a £10 wireless remote trigger that you have in your hand, the other part plugs into the side socket, and you can press the shutter whenever you want, it even has pre-focus by pressing the button half way. Look for them on Ebay. If not like my small digital camera it is a case of self-timer, make a note of where your head comes to against something in the shot, door frame or light switch or outside fence or tree branch and then you know u should be in shot. Good Luck, Oh yes and never use a flash, worst thing you can do, always use natural light. 😉

At work this weekend we all got issued our new "IT Kit".  It's done every 2 years when we get our new phones etc. So we handed back our 5MP cameras, flip videos (two of which were still wrapped in their celaphane wrapper) our Blackberries and our voice recorders.

We now have iPhone 5S models and Sony QX10 camera attachments and that's it. Anyyyyyyyyyyywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.......

The QX10 is a strange thing. Never new it existed. It's a digital camera and 1080p video recorder vita 10x zoom that uses the phone as the screen and buttons etc through an app. As such it might be the best selfie camera ever.

Probably the video above makes it clearer.

So it's a lens with built in sensor which connects to smart phone via wifi?  Amazing and clever stuff!    🙂

There's a much easier way to do this........

for those who have an iPhone - get yourself an app called 'GoCam'. Its a camera app, that's designed for those who want to take selfies, group shots etc. The idea is to place your phone looking at you, and you raise your hand to the camera on your phone (from a distance), and you use hand signals to set the timer, and to take the photo. this is the link - https://itunes.apple.com/se/app/gocam-feat-abubbl/id883157865?l=en&mt=8 - to the app. I love it, although I've yet to dare a nude picture at all! think im not quite at that stage yet 🙂

With a bit of practice and a little trial and error it's possible to take quite a range of pictures using a simple 10 second delay.
This one for example:

It's even easier if you have a camera that you can setup to take photos every few seconds at a fixed interval.  Then just delete the ones you don't want and keep the good ones.

We did this first to take some photos of some blue tits that were nesting and starting to fledge. Got some great photos of the chicks appearing at the entrance, just before flying off.

Now we use the same method when we want to take any photos of ourselves together.

He was Definately already on his bike when he pressed the self-timer, and a quick circle round to the track. Well Done  😀

Took all my Naked Yoga series of Pics using a tripod and remote trigger.
Got into a Pose, pressed the remote trigger, to start the 10 second self timer, during the ten seconds threw the remote trigger out of shot. Its a slow process, but very 'doable'.

Using a bean bag on a handily placed rucksack lets you take self portraits when you are out and about in them thar hills!  One of my selfies from 2009 when I did more hill walking than I do now.  Need to get out more this summer!  🙂

Plenty or tiny mini tripods to use or the bean bag method is good. or half a bag of sugar if you are in a hurry.
