Just had the BN newsletter then checked Merryhills website. Its now not naturist.
Not sure if its been sold or if the owners just decided to go textile.
In any event, it makes little difference to me as I was never allowed in on my own as I am that naturist leper that is 'the single male'. Allways told that 'it is nothing personal, we just like having couples'. Oh and single females of course ???.

Think I read about this in H&E. It's not been sold but through lack of interest of any naturist buyers they have gone textile hoping to attract a buyer.

It's close to me too and I was half thinking about a caravan there. I wonder if they would have mentioned the upcoming change to textile if I'd gone further?

I wonder what would have happened if you had rented a year's pitch on the basis of it being a naturist site and then been told that it wasn't.
The resulting small claims court case for the recovery of your money might have been fun to watch.

There was a camp site I think it was called Tara that went the same way It was on our "to visit " list , but was sold off for textile use before we got there. I think a naturist camp site has a USP that maybe the owners should just have the courage to take advantage off.

Thank goodness that there are still some members clubs that have an agreement that the club cannot be sold off, even for the benifit of the members, lets hope that they can survive for many more years.

Merryhill is still open but textile. The owners wanted to sell but could not find a buyer willing to continue naturist use so they converted it to textle and then sold. There is another thread about this somewhere but I do not know how to link it

Unfortunately you need to find a genuine members club where the site is owned and run by the members instead of belonging to someone who can sell the property and close the club, or the property is sold on the death of the owner.
Luckily we have a members club that even the members cannot sell and share the proceeds.

From my experience, nearly every naturist club has a different structure, including limited companies and trusts, owning their land by lease or by freehold, having a core company to run the site or running it directly by members, as well as the ones that rent their site or are basically commercial entities with the members being more like customers.
Out of curiosity, how would your club handle closure if the the members desire it, for example if it needs money to be raised that the members do not feel up to raising?

Similar thing happened at Charnwood Acres a few years back.......went textile. A lot of hacked off members I seem to remember. Cant remember if it was sold by Naturist family to textile or whether they stopped the Naturist side.
In Answer to Nibs question, it is included in the clubs constitution that in the unlikely event of closure, the property and assets would be sold and all proceeds donated to charities of the members choice, so there is no inducement for any member to influence closure for personal gain.
The club belongs to all members no matter how long they have been members.
It is hoped that the club, which has been running for over 50 years, will be there to be enjoyed by members and many visitors for many more years.
It's a members club, they maintain and improve the site, mains electricity, own borehole water supply and independent of all council facilities.
