Keith, just found your post and all I can say is I've just completed my first night time walk - what exhilaration.  I opted for a walk I already knew in daylight.  Only thing was these has been sown with corn and at this time of year it's a good height! So whatever tickles your fancy!!  Anyway the walk was an hour round trip and what a feelling.  You may feel nervous, but do a night walk and you won't feel nervous.

I had a good naked walk not far from your neck of the woods. I went up to The Roaches in the Staffordshire Moorlands, which is always an area guaranteed to have someone there. However if you drop down off the highest point and take the narrow path past what I think is a school you'll find a hidden valley where you can walk au natural. The route I took brought me back between The Roaches and Hen Cloud. The latter part of the walk did require clothing as there was a little road walking and the busy Roaches. It could be a good taster route for you. You'll need a good OS map.

I must try to get out more often now the weather is improving

I have just read your post, its now over a year since you posted it!
The area you mention looks promising as I know the Roaches and Hen Cloud and they are not to far from Manchester, but I can't make out exacterly on the OS map or google maps where you went from your discription.

Could you give a few more details?

During fine weather I sometimes take myself off to Hopwas Woods, between Tamworth and Lichfield., for a naked walk. As it's not far from me I can take a couple of hours out around the middle of the day (I work for myself) and midweek there are not many other people about. There is an official footpath along one side and a canal on the other but there are also plenty of unofficial footpaths within the woods themselves. It used to be used occasionally for military training by the local barracks but has not been for a good few years.

You occasionally come across another walker or jogger and sometimes a farmer on a tractor or forestry worker in a Landrover but in most cases you are able to spot them in plenty of time to cover up. I have only been caught out twice - both times by joggers - but never had a problem.

Apologies Chris,
I missed this query whilst on holiday. The top of The Roaches can be quite busy but the route I took was very quiet and I think there are further possibilities beyond the Roaches i.e. opposite end to Hen Cloud

Looking at the OS map NGR 099645 there's a path that parallels The Roaches and leads to Goldstich House. From that same grid point you can alternatively walk NW with several walks possible. Be a little careful by Gradbach that's a Scout camp and there may be youngsters about. Luds Church is an unexpected and surprisingly deep chasm cut into the side of hill.

guess i should have looked at this thread before spending last week at wychnor park... however i managed to give the family the slip and spent a morning at the nature reserve immediatly east of the national memorial arbouretum... could see crowds of people at the memorials but i had my side of the water to meself.... apart from the odd train on the railway line.
there was also a newish bit of the national forest between wychnor and alwrehas , think it was potters field, that i spent an odd couple of hours  exploring

I used google maps satellite view to check out the local area for a woodland where I could go for a naked walk. I found an area between Burton-on-Trent and Uttoxeter (Marchington woodlands) where I could park the car on a quiet lane and walk straight into the woods. First time I went I didn't venture far, but I've since been back a couple of times and walked for 2 hours each time. I even left my clothes in the car so I couldn't chicken out half way round!
I loved the feeling of the air on my skin and forgot about worrying about being seen as the woods are quite dense. Would be nice to have some company next time I go but I'm only able to get out during the day on Fridays.

Freebeat,  I take the dogs to Hopwas woods every week !  I've often thought about going naked,  if you head over to the private woodland side you never see anyone !  Not many leaves on the trees at the moment so I might get spotted !  It might still be worth a try,  might wait until next week when the kids go back to school though don't want to get caught out.

Not quite true these days but you don't see very many and usually have plenty of time to cover up or divert onto another path.

I was in the woods again today at about 2:30pm,  no one in sight until I hit the pig farm where I met a couple and that was it !  The one issue I have is a younger woman from work walks her dog in the woods, if I was to bump into her I would be absolutely mortified !

This sounds great but it's quite a while since this thread was active. Is this area still an option? I'd love to find out more, as it's not too far from where I live.

I'm from Stoke on Trent and would enjoy accompanying someone on a walk in Staffordshire, Cheshire or Derbyshire.
