Unfortunately Alex you are right I had a similar but not quite as blunt an approach at Monknash in early May.
I would like to take my wife down there but feel it is not safe.

yes it's very unfortunate, I wouldn't say it's unsafe but it could certainly prove  very unnerving and absolutely not relaxing when you're always on edge. maybe go as part of a small group, so you have a greater dissuasion capability . . . . it's definitely one of the most beautiful spots in the Vale. Worth going  even if there is no opportunity to shed your clothes for a bit, used to be down there every day clothed walking the dog.

Yesterday ruined my afternoon there as well - i know I'm a single bloke so sometimes get put into a box by naturists with a predispose idea of what a naked bloke might want but that is the last thing and does somewhat dissuade me. unfortunately there's a lot like that in the Vale and they give anyone with a persuasion to naturism a bad name, and make our time and the time spent by locals and textiles on the beach uncomfortable.

How can it be tackled?

I think everyone avoiding the place because they may run into those types isn't the right way to go.  The more of us genuine naturists who go down there and act in an appropriate way, will hopefully discourage them and they will go elsewhere.  Strength in numbers and all that.  It is a stunning place, and I will not let those types stop me from enjoying it and I hope other genuine naturists will continue to go there to.

Not far from Monknash, a tragedy has occurred. Monkfish suffers from the same problem. Clothed or unclothed, be careful where rock falls are common..

Ducking autocorrect!!!

Monknash is the next beach a few hundred yards west of where this accident occurred. Basically the same line of cliffs, same rock formation, same risk.

Not sure if it the accident has made people wary of these beaches but monknash is really quiet lately, had the place to myself basically last night, really windy on the naked walk down through the farmers field and down the ladders, but much warmer once on beach with less wind, saw one old guy out walking on top then two people sitting on the rocks at the llantwit end, walked back to southerndown end and saw nobody!  all in all about three hours to myself and naked the whole time, lovely 🙂

Sounds lovely, Cian. Looking on Google Earth, I'm still not sure of the direct route to the ladder from the farmer's field, though. I have only very gone through the wooded area and not moved much from the bottom of that path on the beach, all textile...

Cian,
Did you walk naked from the car or after you go over the 1st gate?
I have walked from the ladder back for a short while naked, but never from the car.
Hope no damage to car as that area was prone to vandalism >:(
Enjoy!!

No, I haven't had any problems with my car there thankfully.  And I normally get naked right after the first gate, after the path through the trees and stay naked till I get back to the same point!  Like I said been very quiet lately and haven't seen many people on the walk too or from the ladder, or on the beach for that matter.  Hoping to get further afield for my next few outings if possible.

My wife and I have been to Monknash many times with no issues, and have been a few times with nudist friends. We usually stop short of the rocks where there have been a lot of nudists on a few occasions. We have chatted to a few nice nudists, though I recall one saying they had issues with a person who has bothered people before, so it may be just one or two who create problems. Other times we have had the beach almost to ourselves, and any 'textiles' were so far away as not to be bothered by the occasional nudist. One FB friend did comment on my post when I said we were at Monknash to ask if I was skinny dipping, and not to frighten the fish as he goes there fishing!

Hi are you referring to beach on south coast Wales someone mentioned it, was going to check it out on first week of August. Any info you can share would be helpful and looking for somewhere to pitch tent is there a local camp site? You recommend. Cheers Robert

A thought on your concerns regarding the comments about the male and inappropriate behaviour.
A way forward would be to get a group together and look at turning the beach from an informal site to a formal one by approaching the land owner for permission to use it as a naturist site in view of it already being used as such. Voluntarily policing the beach and warning users of the dangers could be but a few of the things taken up by the group. Fund raising for signs to go up would hopefully deter such behaviour.
What do others think?

Possibly. However, while its sometimes true that if you don't ask you don't get, it can also sometimes be true that to ask is to seek denial.. At present, naturism is at least tolerated there, albeit with some difficulties. Any bid for official status risks falvanising opposition as well as support and risks a 'think of the children!' Hysteria inspired crackdown... Always a problem in trying to get beaches to official status... I'd love you to be right, though..

I guess you've never been there rojo. It's not what you'd call accessible, and it's public land.

The solution to the issue is for all elements of the community to approach these individuals and make it absolutely clear they aren't welcome, textiles and genuine naturists alike. I know many of the locals and can understand their frustrations, a few days back whilst walking towards the ladders myself, a friend and his wife were greeted by two men heading up the ladders, both with erections. Unsurprisingly, this isn't really acceptable behaviour to a textile or a naturist. We often take kids down with us for bbqs or walks and that unfortunately means all people using that are tarred with the same brush.

I wish it wasn't that way because as a result I severely limit how often I use that beach as a result, despite a few of my friends knowing my tendency to shun clothes if I can. All I can stress to the community is that they aren't representative of naturists and all I can stress to anyone that sees clearly lewd behaviour is to make the individuals feel as unwelcome as possible to deter them.
