hi guys

i am new to both naturism and this site and have a few concerns that i hope someone can help alleviate.

while researching and investigating the lifestyle online after my first  surprising but extremely welcome naturist experience recently, i noticed that there are a lot of images of children in photos of naturist camps and beaches, which i found quite surprising and a bit alarming. should i be concerned that i have viewed these photos from a legal perspective, as it was certainly unintentional and i am not sure what the authorities view on these sorts of images is.

clarification on the issue would be appreciated so that i can pursue my interest and research without fear of a knock on the door.

thanks guys

brian

Well as the children in naturist photos/videos are simply being there rather than doing anything they shouldn't, then such images can't be regarded as pornographic, which I assume was the interpretation you were worrying about.

I think it would help greatly, though, if people were to ensure their naturist photos or videos did not include images of children in the first place.

I think There is a huge difference between naturist pictures where children happen to be seen and childpornography and i think the autorities can tell the difference. Why shall a small group of sick individuals controll how we life?

I agree that there is a massive difference between a naturist picture and pornography, but I also agree that in this sad and nervous world, it would be far better not to take or publish naturist pictures that include children. In my opinion and from my experience, children, as part of a family group are probably safer in a naturist environment than elsewhere, but there will always be those who are ignorant of the reality of naturism who put their own spin on such things to the detriment of all concerned. Let's keep children out of our pictures and indeed let's keep our fellow naturists out of our pictures as well unless they know we are taking pictures and want to be included. After all, the joy of naturism is not, to me, a photographic opportunity despite the fact that I have been a photographer for far longer than I have been a naturist (more's the pity!), it is a free and amazing way of life that has to be experienced to be believed!

I would have great concerns if someone came into the naturist community to look at these image's when indeed most naturists try to keep there kids out of photos as there are people who would view them for the wrong reasons ,familys who are naturist should feel safe in naturism with the controls put in place at clubs and swims to deter such people from attending them

I think it is sad indeed if naturist photographs cannot include children. I understand the reasons, but I think the effects are negative on naturism. It comes to be potrayed and seen more and more as an adult activity not suitable for children. This is seen at swims where those who hire out facilities do not permit children.

Photos of family naturism potriay the activity in a very positive way, although clearly there are those who will throw their hands up in alarm, who have been conditioned into thinking that any naked image is sexual.

In practise, everyone has to be very careful of taking and how they use such images. But then parents these days have to be careful of taking any photographs of their children in public these days if they want to avoid being accosted by some idiot.

While naturism is not a voyeuristic activity, we all like to see photographs of families and friends having a good time. Avoiding naturist photographs is a sad acknowlegement that there is a long way to go for naturism to be fully accepted as s healthy activity which can be shared by anybody.a

If we carry through the suggestion that children shouldn't be photographed in naturist settings at all, we are propagating the idea that is held in too many quarters; both in authority and in other unspeakable ones, in that children are and are potentially, sex objects and children's bodies are in themselves dirty. That is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong on every level. We are already fighting bans on children at several naturist swims, we must not give in one inch to the views held in some authorities that naturism should be an adult activity. That would be the beginning of the end to our hobby in the UK, and plays into the hands of people with seriously distorted views. If naturism isn't suitable for children, then it's not suitable for this adult.

Naturist resort websites and brochures, especially those in France carry pictures of children. It would be absolutely absurd if they didn't, as they are marketed as family resorts, with children's activities and facilities, and naturally you have to show them being used in the marketing. I sent for a France4naturisme brochure a few years ago, and there is a large number of photos inside with children. Unfortunately it is in storage at the moment, but as far as I can recall, children were not pictured on their own, but in the company of parents and I don't think there was full frontals either. They were pictured sat at the side of the pool, in the pool where you wouldn't see if they were wearing anything anyway, and on the beach, but nothing out of what would be considered exceptional in a resort environment.

I did in fact appear full frontal myself in H&E at the age of 7 or 8, in the company of other children on the stage at Eureka during the 'beauty contest' as part of a very large picture-spread over several pages, as at that time the Eureka fun day was promoted heavily. No doubt the social services now would be having apoplexy and worse, but my parents and other parents there would have been absolutely horrified at any dark suggestion. The thought never crossed any of our minds at the time. More innocent times before the internet, yes, but even though technology may have changed, naturist resorts and clubs are fundamentally safe places for children, and we should continue to argue vigorously for that ideal. Else, we might as well pack this whole thing up.

I don't see any issue at all with children being shown in shot, pictures just of children unless they are your own is rather different or close ups just of children naturally is rather alarming.

I hope as nudists we all try to recapture the more relaxed 'innocent' times before everyone thought that everyone else had bad thoughts - I have never understood the panic about children being in pictures - want along any high street and you see them, they are in TV programs, on the news, in pictures in news papers pictures on the web etc.

Many years ago I took many picture of children at school sports day, plays, bands etc etc - my kids were included in most of them and there was never anything  weird about this.

If children are naked along with the rest of us - I see no issue.

If we are not innately convinced of the rightness of children being in family settings in photos, with the usual provisos of permission as for adults, how are we going to convince textiles of the same?

Only prudes and paedophiles see a naked child as sexual.

I and with much regret share the concerns in this over sensitive world we live in. My gut feeling is seeing the odd picture in this context is acceptable but if discovered with indecent images would reinforce a prosecution.

Being more objective I would guess that these images fall into categories 1-2 of the Copine scale and 1 in the SAP scale. See here for details

Only prudes and paedophiles see a naked child as sexual.

... and unfortunately many prosecutors, and over worried parents, and social workers, and Police etc etc.

That's the nub. I have 5 boxes full of H&E's of which nearly half have pictures of children in a naturist setting, I think they were phased more or less out in the 90s, but in that decade H&E went through a bit of an identity crisis with lots of chopping and changing of editors, a couple of whom went more for the 'sexy' market. I haven't looked at any of them since I became a student two years ago. The France4Naturisme is buried away in a box file somewhere. The reason I have kept it, is because I like to look at naturist holiday brochures, the same reason I have kept all the old Peng ones which will have a nostalgia value in years to come.

There is no question of any other images being discovered in tandem, so I would hope that I have no cause to be worried. Old copies of H&E are sold on ebay, and I have never seen any concerns raised over them.

If naturism isn't suitable for children, then it's not suitable for this adult.

I agree 100% with Brigitte and would go further inasmuch as it is probably more suitable for children. That way they would not grow up with such a biased, prejudiced and myopic narrow minded view of life that we see portrayed by many people, including some of those in authority. This would be to everyones benefit including the adults.

When you cannot take photographs of your child in a nativity play it does not bode well for any other type of innocent photograph.

Children by and large, and at least those I have encountered professionally, have a much more robust, level-headed and sensible attitude to things than many adults sadly give them credit for.

That depends on the head teacher. I recall a local school banning parents taking such pictures. There was quite a lot of criticism in the local rag about this decision. Whilst this was still going on a local youth group put on a panto and the leader said parents could take pictures. There was a rapturous round of applause.

These people are often on another planet!
