Only done one so far this year, through the woods.  Was OK but a tad cold. The missus wondered why I had mud on my bum the next morning though (I'd slipped over).

Never done a summer night time walk but plenty of early morning ones. Either go to Beamish or Tanfield Railway area though you do have to watch out for doggy do, partly inspired by milfmogs adventures - highly recommended if anyone wants to tag along.

Davey  😉 😉

I used to walk that area very regularly while staying at the nearby Beamish Park Hotel for work. Say "Hi" to all the early morning critters for me 🙂

Have fun,

Ian.

Living in the country and now the street lights rad switched off after 1am I quite often do this - just the freedom and peace and quiet - such a nice way to unwind when I can't sleep

It made me laugh the comment about the muddy bum by the way - sounds like something I would do - it reminded me of my 1st night time walk -- not thinking or knowing I walked past a house with security lighting and found myself lit up like a stage show - I have never made a quick run and dive into bushes so quickly - I am more aware and less worried nowadays though

Did one today on Harting Down.  There was a quarter moon and 15C, slight breeze.  The original path heading East is worn chalk and was easy to see in darkness.  The first half mile is tree-lined which adds to the sense of darkness.

Bumping into a textile at this time would've been alarming - I can easily understand why a naturist would value the concealment but a textile?  I think that you've got to be personally confident about handling a nutter you may encounter in the night.

Anyway, no encounters were had with anyone.  A dog-walker was seen at 6.00 a.m. by which time it was broad daylight so I packed up, having reached open Downs and enjoyed the 2 hours, from 4 -6.

This area is NT land.  It seems to me perfect for naturists.  Thinking of the way NT manages Studland, and actually endorses naturism, isn't there a case for their opening up their countryside to us, officially- "Nudity may be seen in these woods/hills between 4 & 6 a.m."?

You don't need their endorsement to be naked at a time when there is no-one else around, and the inference is then that it is not ok any other time, even in the middle of the night!

Nudity is suppoerted at Studland at any time. I believe NT also supported naturist walks in quiet parts of Sherwood Forest, no need to hide in the night, and bump into trees (ouch!). I have done it..... Yew woods are particularly dark.

I agree that there's no need to hide, MartinM, except to the extent that textiles spoil your peace (of mind)...

Agree also that we don't need NT's endorsement, except to the extent that it provides peace of mind....

Can't help thinking that some textile ramblers would consider naked rambling in an NT-endorsed place, but not otherwise....

ps:  Had to abort a nightime ramble today cos there was no moon and I didn't take a torch.  Duh!

pps:  Before aborting I went about half a mile.  Running deer were thundering about all around me in the dark.  Would-be nightime ramblers should be aware that thundering deer are alarming - they bring out your sense of small, vulnerable insignificance.  In some ways a herd of other naturists would alarm me less.  It's an edgy experience to walk at night alone...

I think I would be a little apprehensive in built up areas - being collared by Ol' Bill at 3am naked would need some explaining. In the countryside though, with a torch, would love to give it a go  🙂

drzac, the good news is that you don't even need a torch if you choose your moon-phase right, on a cloudless night.

Having fouled up big-time I've learned from others.  Currently stalking the moon, when she gets her act together I'll go commune with her!

Well you would avoid the charge of going equipped to steal. 🙂

A good point well made, yeomanterry!

Nightime walking means sneaking out when everyone else is asleep.  At this time the police have nothing to do.  Expect to get pulled over!

For this reason I limit drinking to one bottle of Scotch only before a nightime walk.  This is sensible, because we all know how alcohol takes a while to clear from your body and no-one condones drinking and driving especially when you stick out like a sore thumb on the road in the middle of the night....

So nightime walking is about sneaking out under the cover of darkness, sneaking about with your willy out, then sneaking back.  It's great fun, if socially very marginal.....

That's an important part of what naturism is about to me, although I tend to prefer the early mornings when I catch the deer by surprise rather than the night when the do the same to me. Also, going barefoot I have to be partucarly stealthy at night not to get thorns etc in my feet....

I do like the feeling of keen alertness which heightens your senses, increases mindfulness and better enables a 'coonection' with surrounding nature.  This feeling can be instantly shattered when stubbing your toe in the dark or tripping up and landing in the brambles!
