I expect this may have come up before, but I have recently taken the plunge and opened a seperatat Flickr account to show my nude (and not so nude) self portraits.

I have tagged all pictures where you can see my dangly bits as restricted, and pictures where I am merely shirtless as safe

I am not completely sure, but I think that bare bum is moderate, but what of full frontal with no bits showing?

My screen name is Woodland Wonderer BTW as Woodland Wanderer has already been taken.

You are about right in your assessment.
Nude without genitals or bum cleavage showing is safe while bum cleavage is moderate while anything showing genitals is restricted.

So how does that work in regards to viewing images. I can view any images on flicker. I don't remember checking a box to do so, also I have just had a look at my photo stream and all the images are tagged as restricted, none of them are naturist themed just holiday snaps and the like.  I presume somewhere along the line I have chosen to restrict them.
Also if a person says friends, or family, do you have to contact that person to be added to their list, or is the another box you have to check?

You can see all your own pictures regardless of settings but which level of other peoples pictures you can see depends on what level of filter you have in your profile settings.
To see somebody else's friends and/or family pictures they have to naminate you as a friend and/or family.

The best source of information on this subject is the semi-official group "AFM: How NOT to get Deleted!" at https://www.flickr.com/groups/unsafe/
It is much more comprehensive and reliable than Flickr's help text.

At the risk of sounding rude to a previous poster it does show just how lackadaisical people are with web settings relating to their photos and videos which annoys me somewhat.
i think that you have to protect yourself sometimes and at other times you can be free and easy with what you upload but you MUST be in control and AWARE of your settings.
Relationships, friendships, jobs and more can be ruined or tainted due to people being too lazy to take the time to understand a site like Flickr.
I love Flickr and find it invaluable but I always know what I have posted and more importantly who has access, often it's me and me alone; other times it is the world and his wife, but I have the control.
Saying you are unaware of settings I think is a very bad habit to be into.

John, your link is exactly the one I would have used!

Which reminds me, is the NC- Flickr group still active. I think I may have deleted it in error at some point but as a hidden group I guess it is lost in the billions of images Flickr has?

It is still in existence but effectively moribund.
I'll re-send you an invite if you will remind me of your flickr Id. by PM.

Deleted it in error did we .  Not so savey after all thenare we.
Seeing as there were very few contributions to this thread I quests you are talking about me.  With out going back to my post i think that I said all my images were classed as restricted. What I said is that I didn't remember ticking any boxes. But if the default is restricted then what is the problem.
You don't know any thing about me or the way I handle my affairs on line, so please don't presume that you do, and mind your own busness.
I have asked for advice on lots of topics over the five years that I have been with NC, and no doubt I will ask again. But what I don't need is some wise butt implying that I am stupid.

lol, it wasn't specific to you just a generalisation (hence my opening phrase) but I stand by what I wrote. Too many people don't respect the intricacies of the internet and all its foibles.

I presume somewhere along the line I have chosen to restrict them.

My statement was based on the above, but as an observation, not a 'dig'. I'm still generalising though and not aiming just at you but the world in general.

I am sorry what I wrote has made you quite so angry devman613 but it is a forum and I am posting an opinion. I will say nothing more on the matter. As for my accidental deletion, I am fairly sure I saw it as a dead entity and binned it during a clear-out. It's not quite the same thing but perhaps I should have kept it just in case.

(I hate it when I have a morning off with nothing better to do than prattle on in a forum, but hey, it keeps me out of mischief).

Merry Christmas
