I like to dabble with landscapes and travel photography.

Further to John's (Cherry and John) comments above about Youtube, I have personally learned a lot from Scott Kelbys webcast programme "The Grid", especially the ones doing blind photo critiques. There is a lot to dislike about these videos (endless self promotion, a somewhat grating style etc etc) but if you can get past that there is some very sound advice.

My lightbulb moment came when I actually did get up before dawn to do some landscapes in the golden hour around dawn and was amazed how, with exactly the same camera and lens I had been using without producing photos with impact, I suddenly could (I think).

F70100  ... I just followed you on 500px.com

BTW .... I picked up somewhere that Scott Kelby has just let all his Photoshop trainers go. Nobody seems to know why.

I used to be a member of a local Photographic Society. Sadly I found them to be rather Elitist - if you couldn't afford a several thousand pound Nikon or Canon, with thousands of pounds worth of lenses, you weren't "worthy" enough to enter competitions.

Also they let club members, (who happened to be professional photographers), submit entries into the beginners section, as it was their first year in the club...  Which kind of thumbs the nose at real beginners!

I do have a flickr site, although it's mainly used to share my photos of my scale model builds.  But I do have some of my panoramas here:

I wouldn't call myself a Photographer, I'd say I'm just someone who enjoys using a camera to capture nice views.

and I've just bought myself a Canon EOS 1200D.

Hey there budding photographists!

I'm no David Bailey, however I enjoy being photographed and taking the odd snap.  As I am generally naked alone when on the beach or elsewhere, getting photos of myself is difficult. I would be very happy to be a subject and have some photos taken of myself.

Let me know in the South West if you need a subject.

Cheers

I wonder why a pro would want to join a photographic society / club?

Just ask if you want to do nude portraits or naturist type shots. You might be surprised at the positive responses. Show your best work first. Never show anything you are not really happy with.

Hi yes, I am a photographer, semi-pro in fact. I photograph many different aspects, from family portraits, model portfolios, land and townscapes and I really enjoy creative work.

I may be made redundant later this year, so will be taking up photography for a living, if that does end up being the case.

It's a free country, live life to the full!

I've been an avid photographer since a small child, a graphic designer by trade, I worked as an art director/designer for a calendar company, organising and arranging calendar shoots for 'page 3' type calendars, including Linda Lusardi when she was a young 'glamour model' I also appeared as a stand-in model appearing on calendars with pro nudes - now that I really enjoyed.

Later, when working for myself I purchased one of the first digital semi-pro cameras, the Canon 10D, boy that was slow, but a great learning curve.

Later still, I taught PhotoShop to pro photographers and students at colleges and Universities - that was great fun too.

Now, I can't stand photography, I shudder at the thought, I sold all my pro gear I now use my mobile phone for any images that I need - those images are far superior in quality of the images taken during my film years.

What I still really enjoy is making videos, especially the editing

I have seen some really good pictures taken with mobile 'phones. The stadard can be very high given they are taken through plastic lenses that rub against the inside of pockets and slide along hard surfaces.

Hi, Yes I'm a photographer, though not how one would expect; very little of my work sees a final print as it was taken.  I love to manipulate my work into forms of fantasy art (mermaids, ghosts, mythical creatures etc).  For the past twenty years my wife has been my main model and my children in a lesser way; so it would be good to find a willing model that I can afford.
Other work consists of animals and birds, scenery and old buildings.
My work can be seen on Flickr

My photography for fun is predominately Long Exposure Landscapes.  Have a look at my 500px portfolio if you want to see what I mean.
