I dont know if my first experience of nude swimming is revevent but I studied a an all boys boarding school and we swam in the nude in the school pool as part of our PE .That was ! in dare I say it 1952 , After i,d left school a girl friend and I with friends used to skinny dip under cover of dusk on a beach near Eastbourne . A long lapse because of prudish partners and now with a partner of 5 yrs just found that we want to in our twilight years , Yep we've got a week away together in the Buff if the weather holds . Anyhow we'll be regulars for the hot tub and Sauna to soothe away the aches and pains!
I think for those of us of a certain age and background nude swimming at school was a very important experience. It wasn't technically compulsory at my (day) school, but it was permitted. Therefore not having the regulation swimming trunks was no excuse for not swimming. I would say that 80% of boys therefore had to try nude swimming out. My unscientific research (because even then, I was interested) indicated that nobody I asked about their experience did not enjoy it, characterized by the usual words like “freedom”, “liberation”, and “exhilaration”. But nude swimming did not become the norm. Why? Owing to peer pressure: an habitual nude swimmer was labelled HST (homosexual tendencies), and not treated well. Tragic, really.
