When a good idea turns bad!

I was driving home from my naturist swim this evening and thought to myself, it's a beautiful evening, I think I'll have a walk around some of my favourite local fields. As there was no one around (unlikely at 22.00), I stripped my shorts and t-shirt off and had a pleasant naked walk for 30 minutes or so.
Then it all went wrong. As I approached the path back to civilisation I decided to dress, just in case. Shorts on first and then took my glasses off, stuck them in my pocket (or so I thought) and pulled my shirt over my head as I carried on walking. Reach for the glasses and, they're not there! Disaster!! It's pitch dark, I've no glasses and so chance of finding them as I can't see a thing anyway.  One thing for it. Try and memorise where I am (in a field!), walk back to the car for a torch or my phone to try and search for them.  Of course it's a needle in a haystack isn't it.  30 minutes of wandering around like a loon with only the light of my phone and, guess what, no glasses! I'll have to come back at first light and try and remember where I was.  As I was walking back I thought that I should have stopped as soon as I realised I didn't have my glasses and thrown my light coloured shirt on the ground, then at least I would have had some kind of marker, but hey, hindsight is a wonderful thing!
As I say, when a great idea goes bad, and probably expensive!

I know the feeling - I was picking damsons lockside and a branch whipped my glasses off. I did find them but minus one lens.
Since then I have always kept a spare pair in both car and boat - it does not eliminate the expense but it does provide some cover.

Postscript - disaster over, glasses found.
I got up at the crack of dawn (well, 6am, it is the weekend!) to resume my search for my errant glasses.  I spent over an hour walking backwards and forwards across the area where I thought I'd dropped them to no avail.  I was about to give up and consign myself to an expensive trip to Vision Express when my phone rang. Fortunately there are are a couple of notice boards at each end of the fields (they are community owned to stop development encroachment) and I'd put a Lost! notice up.  A lovely chap called Keith had found my glasses and my notice and all was well in the world again.
All I can say is phew!!!

Years ago with my brother the two families went for a walk (textile) along the Trent from East Bridgeford.  when we arrived back at the carpark I discovered that I had lost the car keys.  No way we would ever find them in the grass.  I went back to my brothers house and collected some tools then in the carpark, with numerous people around, I proceded to break into my car and jump the ignition.  Nobody stopped me or even asked what I was doing.  Once home I got the spare keys and repaired the damage.  Goes to show how easy it would have been to nick someone elses motor.

I remember once losing my glasses in a wood at night as they were knocked off by a branch, there was no way I was going to find them in the dark so I borrowed my dads pair (his prescription was close enough) the next morning, and retraced my steps looking for broken branches and eventually found them.

These days I see very little without them and having stayed at a friends house found myself groping all over the place for them in the morning as I did not have a usual place to put them as I do at home.

Many years ago two of us took some kids for a walk in a large forest. There had been a large dump of snow. I drove and on reaching the forest gave him the keys to drive back. Halfway round I joked about him losing the keys.He had!!

We were quite some way from home and we had to be rescued. We took shelter in the  local Police Station. Next day we had to go back and recover the vehicle. I've allowed him to forget losing those keys.

Many. A true word is said in jest!

Years ago I had driven the minibus for a school trip to a theme park. Whilst there I went on a roller coaster with the kids, during the ride the minibus keys fell from my pocket & landed on the floor of the ride.

Fortunately I managed to keep one foot on them until the ride ended, despite looping the loop.

I have the same problem (need my glasses to find my glasses).  The way I solve it is to put everything important into a "grab bag" - this is just a wash kit bag bought from a discount store.  Then I know where everything is when I get up.

I can't remember where I got the idea from (maybe from Paul Connolly's book Don't tell my mom I work on the Rigs - She thinks I'm a piano player in a whorehouse.  A book well worth reading.

If you are wrapped up in yourself, then you are overdressed!

I am quite open to meeting other folks at organised nude venues that are within my reach financially and socially.

I was on a cross channel catamaran which was steaming at a fair old rate of knots. I guy came onto the small deck for what he thought would be a good idea to get some fresh air. A combination of both wind and speed got the better of his pair of specs which disappeared off his face and across a flat metal  roof behind the deck area.

Fortunately there was a small metal ridge at the side of this area, about an inch high. His specs lodged there. It was far to dangerous to retrieve them so for half and hour he watched (probably in a blur) until we got into Guernsey whereupon a crew member retrieved them for him turning disaster into relief. From that day I've been worried about loosing my specs in high winds.

Losing your glasses!?  How about (temporarily) losing your clothes!!!?  Many years ago I went for a night time skinny dip in Colemere, Shropshire.  All went well until I regained the shore of the lake from only a few yards out and ....NO CLOTHES!  Obviously my navigation had been a bit faulty but there I was, naked as the day I had been born, wandering about trying to find something to wear.  The area then was fairly densely wooded and not easy to walk through, particularly in the dark.  As far as I can remember I made my way back to the lakeside and searched along it until I had, at last, found my little pile of clothing!  Somewhat heart-stopping up to that point.  Thereafter, if swimming at night I have always placed some item of light coloured clothing in a predominant place for guidance.  It seems funny now, but not then!  Wonder if anyone else has visited Colemere for swimming, skinny or otherwise.

I have lost glasses and lost keys and lost phoner stories - but the best:
I am in a strange town, snowy day, walk a bit, head back to the car.  In the snow on the path I see a wallet.  Pick it up.  Cards, cash.  It was MINE.  Fell out, I never noticede it was missing, then found it meself.  VERY grateful.

Lost glasses?

Not sure if zennioptical.com delivers everywhere, but in the US, the wife and I have ordered 5 pairs of prescription lenses for $135 US.

I highly recommend them. Great glasses. Very inexpensive.
