I find it very relaxing to mediate naked, how many others here mediate while unclothed?

Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sits (naked, of course).

I don't meditate, it would worry me silly if I did, but the naked bit I can cope with.

We have recently started regularly meditating, And are just about to embark on our first naturist outing so we will certainly be trying this.
Can't really do it at home though as our Daughter doesn't know about us wanting to be naturists 🙂

As a buddhist i meditate all the time and have to say i nearly always do it in comfy clothes. To be nude is great but to meditate I need undistracted focus on the type of meditation I do (mindfullness, Metta, mantric etc) sitting for periods makes the body cooler (unless you are focusing on energy generation techniques) and you become more aware of it so this drags the attention away from your object of meditation and the distraction breaks the one pointediness. The worry that someone may come in when you are naked can also be a distraction ( the kids)  In short,there is a big difference in "meditating" for relaxation purposes and in meditating with a subtle object of meditation. Your mind cannot be made to be still but your body can (unless you are doing moving meditations), so for me sitting naked is a distraction for "proper" meditation but good for relaxation meditation.

I have been meditating for some years now, I use a space in the house with minimal heating. Since retiring last year I have established a regular practice and am looking to be naked about the house more.
During the warm weather I have been meditating naked but once it becomes cooler I shall not be, I do not wish to put the heating up just to be naked. Though I am finding the my body does seem to be more tolerant of the cold.
I have been finding that meditation very much compliments naturism, it helps to put me in touch with my body and am becoming increasingly  aware of my connection with nature in a more relaxed way. I believe meditation is a very personal experience, everyone develops their owns their own approach.

Being naked is one of the simple joys of life.

It is very hard to describe the inner enjoyment of being naked .

I used to meditate naked, sitting cross legged in my room lit only by a candle. It helped me at a time when I was in a very depressed state. Even when cold it felt so very liberating and freshened my mind. I was still living with my parents at the time and would do it quite often.

Not sure what defines meditation. Surely any form of thinking can be called meditation. I dont want to be rude, but I just dont get it.
If I am having a soak in the bath and deciding what I am going to do the next day is that meditation ? . If so why does it have to have a name?

I do thinking all day at work, but definitely not meditating. If I start feeling stressed I might do five minutes mediatation to calm me down and destress.

I am not an expert in meditation and there are clearly different ways of doing it, but it involves calming the mind, emptying the mind of 'busy thoughts, entering a different state of awareness. In many cases this will start by simply focusing on your breathing, becoming more aware of your own body and thoughts, relaxing tension in the body and mind, listening to those thoughts that keep intruding, and then letting them go.

For simple relaxation, that is largely all that is required, although it is common to visualise calming situations, such as sitting by a lake. Others meditate for a purpose, such as develloping compassion, but this cannot begin until mind and body are calm.

To answer the question, I like to mediate naked. It is the least distracting and provides the best connection to nature, so long as I am comfortable. If cold, I will simply use a dressing gown.

Meditation is a word that has come to be used loosely and inaccurately in the modern world. That is why there is so much confusion about how to practice it. Some people use the word meditate when they mean thinking or contemplating;relaxing, de-stressing others use it to refer to daydreaming or fantasizing. However, meditation (dhyana) is not any of these.

Meditation is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state. It is the means for fathoming all the levels of ourselves and finally experiencing the center of consciousness within. Meditation is not a part of any religion although it is considered core practise in Buddhism; it is a science, which means that the process of meditation follows a particular order, has definite principles, and produces results that can be verified.  Laying in the bath thinking? about tomorrow can more be called cogitation, contemplation, consideration, mulling over,deliberation, pondering, reflection, rumination, musing, speculation. Therefore it has names to define the object - objective of that particular meditation. Sorry if this is long winded.

Ummm, Sorry, I don't buy it.  I have written this reply three or four times and then deleted it because it came over as being rude, but I can't reply without appearing so.
  I think there are a lot of activities and interests that people take part in just to try to impress others with their intellectual superiority.
Who is to say that a soak in the bath,  or sitting with a drink listening to music, or a long walk  doesn't have the same benefits as so called meditation. Its just that those activities don't look so impressive on a persons face book profile.
The mind is always working, there is a name for when the mind stops working its called death.

There are many ways to destress, and meditation is only one of them. However, it has benefits that you will not get from other 'activities', in the same way that walking or running  may be good destressers, but also have other physical benefits.

A lot of meditation involves letting go of the ego, and accepting ourselves with all our perceived faults. I have never come across people boasting intellectual superiority because of meditation on facebook or anywhere else, just people who say they have found it helpful.

There is more than one way to meditate, but simply thinking or cogitating still isn't meditation.

I dont post this sort of stuff on facebook or anywhere else, so your assumption is wrong. And I do not engage in meditation and call it something else to appear intellectually superior. If you read my first reply you will see I said I am a Buddhist, ergo Meditation is central core to my spiritual practises.  I cant decide whether you dont understand my post or you are being obtuse. To state "I do not accept that when a person is so called meditating  that every day mundane thoughts do not enter their heads"  seems to show you have a formed mental attitude and cannot accept that some people are able to differentiate between mundane thinking and meditating one pointedly. All experienced meditators will tell you mundane thoughts are a constant background chatter to meditating but through practise these can be stilled or minimised. So your belief that relaxing, mental or physical is an activity we all take part in is correct however this is not meditating.To meditate is to work with the mind not drift aimlessly "relaxing" this is a different mindset.  Whether you "accept" this or not is your choice.
