Hi all.

I have seen mention of a CO beach in or near Eastbourne but cannot find any specific posts about it.

Can anyone advise me where it is, how well used it is, especially mid week, and how it fares in comparison to others along that part of the coast. I am coming down for a short break in June and want to make as much of my time there as possible.

I intend to revisit Birling Gap as my previous time there was a bit of a disappointment as I was the only one there and I wasn't even certain that I was in the right place, which may have raised a few eyebrows!!

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul

I live near Eastbourne and use Birling Gap and Pevensey Bay most frequently. To be sure you are in the right place at Birling Gap go down the steps and head West about 250-500 metres. If the weather is fine there will always be others provided it's not a freak of the weather.

Pevensey is also good but if it's windy it's not best as wide open and no protection from the wind. It's easy enough to find. You take the coast road from the roundabout where Esso (I think it's Esso) and Starbucks is. Drive past the Star pub, over the narrow bridge. Then, when you cross the railway, you will see a timber wall where most park or further down is a small parking area. Head West 400m (or so) on the beach and naturists will appear soon enough.

Eastbourne........ not very well attended and VERY unofficial. It is from Holy Well steps and West. To get there you drive West along Eastbourne seafront all the way to the end where the road bears sharp right to go around Beachy Head. There is a small access road between the park and St. Bedes school walk down then follow the steep path and steps to the beach. At high tides access is not at all easy though. Bit of a waste of time IMHO.

Hi Tony

Many thanks for your reply, I will bow to your local knowledge and give Eastbourne a miss, however I think I will try and visit Pevensey bay instead, and definately Birling Gap as so many give it such an excellent review.

I am sitting typing this in a cool and wet Glasgow, thinking that in a fortnights time I should have got to have spent time on at least one beach, fingers crossed that the weather will be good as I only have a few days before heading home.

Thanks for taking the time to reply with directions as well. I guess that I was unlucky when I was at BG last autumn, I thought it was a pleasant enough day but then inclement weather to us hardy Scots is -4 and below 🙂

Cheers
Paul

2017 first naked beach day today!

Well to say day is a stretch. Had work most of the day but managed an hour or so at Birling Gap before the sun lost its kick. Quite annoying as I forgot to pack a beach bag in the car so just had my swim bag and a thin towel wasn't enough on the pebbles. Went for a wonder instead but it was mobbed with textile families and tourists so felt it best to cover up.

There was a guy doing a 'proper' photo-shoot with a naked lady at the far end who was rude to the people passing by on this PUBLIC beach. Wondered back and sat on the beach for a bit before packing up and heading home.

Not exactly something to write home about but nice to be off the mark in 2017. Seems last years dregs of sun cream did the job too as I usually bin what I didn't use at the end of the year, but still had some in the car!

Hi Tony,

Good to hear you are getting out already, I was skinny dipping in the North sea off the Moray coast last weekend, and while not sunny, it was warm enough to enjoy some prolonged nudity!

I'm coming down to Sussex next month, usual visits to BG and maybe other locations planned, something to look forward to!
