Well I went and had a fantastic day 🙂 The weather was ideal and the journey down there only takes just over an hour so it's ideal.
I find it to be a pretty quiet and relaxed environment. I always pitch a spot on the beach although it seems that the majority prefer the dunes/long grass between the beach and the parking area.
The crowd was (and normally is) middle aged/elderly guys who look as though they have had a fair share of sun on their bodies! There were a few couples and I also spotted a solitary female. Unfortunately the area was also frequented by a very pissed and sunburnt young foreign guy who made straight for the lady shortly after she had arrived. She seemed to handle the situation under her own steam but when he returned an hour or so later after stumbling about I asked if he was hassling the lady. Another guy sitting close by said that they had the situation under control but my appearance made the drunken guy wander off.
I didn't see any untoward behaviour although it's quite obvious that some of the guys are there for sexual exploits the way that they roam about.
So all in all it was a great day and hopefully I'll go again when we have another sunny day down by the south east coast 🙂
Well done to you Steve, monitoring the things at Leysdown beach.
I probably fall into the 'elderly guys' who use the beach but we have been using it since the first man landed on the moon. You had a good day and it can be very good on that beach I have always thought. But like all beaches 'stay out of the dunes/long grass and pitch camp on the sand, It does become very busy especially bat weekends, needs to be twice the length is at the moment.
Went there today with the gf and we had a great time by ourselves 😀 Do any other couples go and if so are you planning on going anytime soon as it would be kinda nice to have some company next time 🙂
Had my first trip to Leysdown today as in Kent for a party in the PM. I arrived and weather was a bit iffy and I parked at the last bit of sea wall before road veers inland. To 20 mins to walk down there (a film set was on the field past the cafe which was odd, lots of trucks and people with head-sets).
I found the beach and saw a few wind breaks already up. I had surveyed the road and felt it wouldn't ruin the Merc so drove down. Got busy busy and usual above comments all correct. Did see 1 incident of gay men with shaking shoulders and one guy all but cast a shadow over a naked lady for 20 minutes, but otherwise friendly and open. The "dunes" is not something I'm familiar with at my usual haunts so I can see why it gets called "seedy", but don't let that put you off.
It was clean (nice to have proper bins available) and obviously tended on so will go again next time I'm near.
