Just spotted this site on t'internet.
Has anybody been to Lumb Falls near Hebden Bridge? What is it like?
Sounds idyllic from what I have read.

Went to the falls this morning. It isn't the easiest place to get to but with a rainy weather forecast I had the place to myself.

What was your impression of the falls and the surrounding area? Were they easy to find?

Lumb Falls is easy to reach by car but it's a steep walk down the cobbled path which I assume was an old packhorse route to the falls themselves. Take care in the wet, it can be very slippy and parts of the path are lined by nettles.
Drive through Pecket Well and take the lane on the left (Old Road), drive downhill for approx. 900m to the layby.
Once at the bottom, cross the old Pack Horse bridge. The base of the falls can be reached - with care - when wet.
The falls are on a main rambling route between Shackleton Moor and Hardcastle Crags so you should try and pick a time during the week when it will be quiet.
I would assume that the falls would get busy during weekends and school holidays.
You could use the ordnance survey map to locate this pool (SD993341)
The nearest habitation has an address of Old Rd, Hebden Bridge HX7 8RG so you can initially use that in the car’s satnav.
The actual location according to Google maps for the layby and the start of the path is 53o46’40.”N 2o00’32.7”W.
Pick the right day and it is a lovely place to visit.

Hi there ,

After the good weather yesterday I was thinking I might find lumb falls on Monday afternoon next week but now its cooled off a lot,  I am not so sure, any the schools will break up in a couple of weeks so its best to go before then if at all.

  norm.

Went to the falls again this morning. The weather was occasional rain and about 13C. I figured that if I was going to swim in cold water then this would help me acclimatise easier which it did. Walked naked from the laybye down to the falls and then swam on and off for about half an hour. I found that by first having a quick dip and then increasing the duration of each swim I could safely swim for longer until I swam from one side of the pool to the other and got out at each end so that I wasn't spending too much time completely submerged.
Has anyone had a similar experience swimming in cold water?
