Any ideas anyone?  We have used the Photobox website to create and buy several Photobooks over the last couple of years - holidays, home, us over the years etc - and recently have a hankering to make a coffee-table type book of our more artistic/decorative non-sexual nude photos. Us and a few friends, mostly in outdoor settings in England, Scotland, and Spain.
BUT - Photobox have said they don't allow photos that show the whole nude body!  The days of airbrushing out pubes are over, so where do we go from here?
Shutterfly in the US apparently are happy to print nude photos, but having looked at their website I find it confusing and can't see any way to contact them.
Blurb say they are happy with nudity but their printers may refuse to process the creation - presumably after my having spent hours creating it, never mind paying the bill.
So, any suggestions anyone?
John.

When in doubt - pretend the web existeth not.  Which for some purposes it might as well not exist.

I would hunt around the region for odd-job photographers and printers.

You could have a look at Vistaprint. Their T&C mention "obscene" and "pornography" without defining what they are, but as it's a Netherlands company one would expect less prurience than some other countries. I've only ever used them for business-related printing.

Thanks for the replies.
redivivus - don't need a photographer, and I think having a photobook printed by a general printer would be prohibitively expensive?  The thing about the websites like Photobox is that you can have a large degree of influence over the finished product and it will only cost up to £50 or so.

pjcomp - I've written to Vistaprint to ask their policy, and attached a couple of the sort of photos I have in mind.

I have also written to Blurb, but haven't yet received a reply.

We had a nude photobook done by a company called MyMemory.com a few years ago, but I think they have been taken over by another photo company now.  They did not have a problem will fully nude photos.

(They may be this company now www.myphotobook.co.uk which is based in Germany, so naturist photos are unlikely to be a problem.)

Try asking uphotogifts.co.uk & huggler.com We have created quite a few photobooks with them for recording holiday photos and the progress with changing our garden. There are usually offers every now and then for 24 page A4 photobooks for about £12 each.

We have not created nude ones with uphotogifts or huggler, but can't recall seeing anything in their terms & conditions prohibiting nudity (except for under 18's).

I've used Blurb for seven publications but nothing nude. However, if you browse their bookstall and look under photography as a general subject you should be able to find other books with full frontal nudity. I think the important emphasis is that the pictures should be tasteful and good quality, not just random holiday snaps, if you want to pass their test for appropriateness.

The quality of Blurb books is outstanding. My latest is a large format photo album with 88 full page images. I am a pro photographer and would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Many thanks Graeme & Heather and AliGriff.
I have had another response to my query from Blurb, saying its likely that, if my book was rejected by their printers, I would receive a refund or at least a credit.  So that's positive.  myphotobook is worth investigating too.

AliGriff, I agree about the quality.  Unfortunately my connection leaves a lot to be desired, but I have found with Photobox that I can get away with uploading 2.5mb files.  Much bigger than that and I sometimes have problems.  I was hoping to make a record of us and a few friends over several years, and some of the older files, while hopefully being quite tasteful are not huge, but later ones taken with Canon 550D will be fine.  I was intending to put three or four small files per page, with the larger ones being full page.  That's what I have done with books on our property, holidays etc, and it has been ok so far.

Thank you for starting this interesting and important thread. We take a lot of photos and have considered producing photographic yearbooks on a regular basis. To be fully representative of our lives they would include nude photos of a non sexual nature of us and of our friends. The thought that this might lead to censorship had not entered our minds! Please keep us informed of your progress!

Arnran - yes it is interesting, and quite an eye-opener.  How terrible can it be to show ourselves with no covering!  Showing the full naked body was an absolute no-no to Photobox!

We used to have nude photos printed by Boots and other photo printers in the days of 35mm film, and also had nude photos of us and friends put onto cd without any problem at all.  What's the difference?  Apparently now the printers may be offended by nudity!

Photo yearbooks are a great idea.  Digital photos are all well and good, but one doesn't always want to sit at a pc to view them, or even use a tv or a tablet.  We use all those options at times, but having discovered photobooks they are now our preferred means of sharing our pictures.

At the moment I'm preparing a set of photos to upload to Blurb, and will keep you posted about what happens.

On a positive note, I have now heard from Vistaprint.  I had sent them a couple of representative photos along with my enquiry, and they say yes it is possible to order the book from them!  The books seem to be reasonably priced too, so I think that's what I'll do.  I'll report on progress.

I have used Shutterfly on multiple occasions with nude photos.  I have made photo books as well as calendars, and also had them make prints from my .jpg files to send me.  These all featured many pics I have taken of my wife over the years.  No explicit type pics, but many of full frontal nudity as well as partial nudity and PG-type pics.  These were all for my/our own personal use, not commercial in any way.  Shutterfly never had any problem printing any of the photo files I sent them, and I (along with a few special friends) enjoy looking at the result every time  🙂
Good luck!
Gary

one caveat - we are  in the US, so I suppose Shutterfly's rules could be different in the UK, but I doubt it.

I have had photo books made using myphotobook, and bobsbooks. No problem with naturist type images at all. If in doubt they will both reply to emails.

Gary - why I didn't look more into Shutterfly was that I couldn't find any info about postage to the UK, or any way to mail them to enquire.

Rod - thanks for the info.  I have now put a collection of suitably sized photo together and was about to upload to Vistaprint, but I'll compare prices first!

Update!  I tried to create a book with Vistaprint but found their methods too restricting.  Not least I couldn't see the page formats on my screen - they were too small and too indistinct.

So - I went back to Blurb and have spent a pleasant hour designing, altering, re-designing etc. a 25cm x 20cm landscape book of (I think) 44 pages, with photo covers, all on premium paper, for (with 40% introductory discount) the princely sum of £30ish including postage!  And that even includes a PDF version for Windows, iPad or Android tablet!  Now all we have to do is wait and see whether the printers are too horrified by the (mostly female) nudity to process my creation!

I'll keep you posted.
John.

Do keep us posted, it's something I think my wife and I would be interested in a few years time once we have enough images together.

By the way I assume you took your phones with a camera not a phone. If you did use a phone I'm really interested int eh image quality as I avoid taking cameras onto the beach due to sand.
